"Hi Midge," said Jake as he strolled up the sidewalk to the front porch. "What are you doing?"
"I'm trying to find my dog dish," said Midge.
"Where did you see it last?" asked Jake.
"Next to my dog house in the back yard," said Midge. "It was there this morning when I ate my breakfast."
"Did your owner pick it up and take it in the house when you finished eating?" asked Jake.
"No, she left for work after she brought it out to me. I ate my breakfast, turned around and went to the front yard for a minute and when I came back, it was gone," said Midge.

Midge Sees an Alien
Midge ran up the sidewalk to Jake's
house and slid through the gate. “Jake!” called Midge. “Jake!
Where are you?”
“Hey Midge,” said Jake. “Slow
down. I saw you slide through the gate. What is the hurry?”
“Come now Jake,” said Midge.
“The aliens have landed!”
“Midge,” said Jake. “The last
time you thought aliens landed, it was someone flying an air balloon.
Is it another big balloon?”
“No Jake,” said Midge. “These
are real aliens. I saw them at the store.”
“What were they doing at the
store?” asked Jake.

Gabby Enjoys the Outside
"Midge!" called Gabby. "Hey! Where are
you?"
Midge came running
down the stairs. "Gabby," said
Midge. "What is going on? Why are
you yelling at me?"
"The sun is
coming up and I want to go outside," said Gabby. "Spring is here now I think and time for
me to spread my wings and go back outside."
"Okay,"
said Midge. "Come to the kitchen and sit on the counter. When my owner comes down to feed me before
she goes to work, she will see you here and will open the door to let you
out."
"Are you sure
that will work?" asked Gabby.
"I think
so," said Midge. "She will
know you are better and want to go out."
"I've always
been good, remember," laughed Gabby.
"I
remember," smiled Midge. "We have til next winter to think of a good way
to get you a warm place to stay again."

Spring is on the Way
"Hey there
Jake!" called Midge as she came running around the corner and
into his front gate. "What are you doing?"
"Slow down
Midge," said Jake, just as she came bouncing up the stairs.
"I'm not doing anything but laying here on the swing enjoying
the morning sun."
"That's
great!" smiled Midge. "Don't you love this morning?"
"The sun
is good this morning," said Jake. "Why all the excitement?"
"The sun
is nice and warm," said Midge. "And the snow is melting. I
think the snow is pretty when you are inside the house looking out at
it, but it is too cold to be in it and now it is melting away. I'm so
happy to see it go. Spring is on the way!"
