The four friends sat staring at each other trying to find a fun idea they can do.
Booker-T jumped up and said, “I got an idea!”
“It is a fun idea?” asked Midge. “I want to have fun.”
“Me too,” said Lucy. “Can we have human fun? I like human fun.”
“Me too,” smiled Midge. “Lucy and I like human fun. Like dancing, fishing, bungee jumping.”
“Skateboarding,” said Lucy. “I haven't tried that one. They are building something again near the farm.”
“What are they building?” asked Jake.
Midge was sitting on the front porch in the swing watching the little humans walking past the house on their way to the school.
“Have a good day,” said Midge as Booker-T ran through the gate into the yard and came up on the porch.
“Who are you talking to?” asked Booker-T. “Were you talking to me?”
“No,” said Midge. “I was wishing the little humans a good day.”
“They don't hear what you say,” said Booker-T. “Only we animals understand you when you talk.”
“I know,” sighed Midge. “Everyone is my subject. You are my subject.”
Midge ran out of the bedroom and leaped into the chair next to Snappy's tank and jumped onto the back of the chair. She stuck her nose over the top of the tank and looked around the tank for Snappy.
“Hey there Snappy,” said Midge. “Where are you?”
Snappy poked his head out from under the log and then crawled up the log and sat on top.
“Hi Midge,” smiled Snappy. “What are you doing?”
“I just woke up and ate my breakfast,” said Midge. “Did you see outside?”
Midge, Jake, Booker-T and Lucy all walked to Jake's house to find the reading book that his owner's niece used to learn how to read. They all followed Jake into the house through the doggie door. Jake went to the bedroom and on the table lay a book with two little humans on the cover.
“What is the name of the book?” asked Midge.
“It is called the “Little Reader,” said Jake as he picked up the book in his mouth and walked back to the living room.
Midge and Booker-T sat on Midge's front porch watching the neighborhood kids walking along the sidewalk with backpacks on the backs and little lunch boxes. Lucy and Jake entered the gate at Midge's house and sat down with them on the porch.
“What are you doing?” asked Lucy.
“We are sitting here watching the kids walking to school,” said Midge.
“Did school start today?” asked Lucy.
“I think today is the first day,” said Jake. “Now it will be quiet at the park when we go to swim in the pond.”
“And little kids who don't go to school yet will be there sometimes to ride the train through the park,” said Midge.
“Do they have schools for animals?” asked Lucy.
“I don't know,” said Booker-T. “Do they have them, Jake?”
“I think they have schools for dogs,” said Midge.
