Dog on Wheels

Midge leaped into the chair next to Snappy's tank and stood on the back of the chair

and peaked over the edge of the tank.

Good morning, Snappy,” said Midge. “What are you doing?”

Hi Midge,” greeted Snappy as he crawled up onto the log and stood looking up at Midge. “What are you doing this morning?”

Am going to Booker-T's house and we will walk over to Jake's house,” said Midge. “I like your pretty yellow flowers.”

Our owner put them in here before she went to work,” said Snappy. “They smell so pretty too.”

She likes pretty flowers,” said Midge. “She put some in a vase on the table by the sofa too.”

They are pretty,” smiled Snappy.

What are you guys going to do when you go to Jake's house?” asked Snappy.

I don't know yet,” said Midge. “Maybe he has an idea or maybe Lucy has an idea.”

Lucy is like you,” said Snappy.

Why?” asked Midge.

She likes to do human things like you do,” laughed Snappy.

I know,” smiled Midge. “She is lot of fun.”

Have fun today,” said Snappy.

Have fun doing what?” asked Jake as he Lucy and Booker-T entered the room.

Hey guys!” said Midge. “I was getting ready to walk to your house with Booker-T.”

Lucy wanted to walk over here so she could say hi to Snappy,” said Jake.

Hi Snappy,” smiled Lucy as she stood on her hind legs and put her paws on the side of the tank and pressed her nose to the glass of the tank.

Hi there Lucy,” said Snappy.

What kind of fun were you and Midge talking about?” asked Lucy. “Was it good?”

She didn't know what you guy were going to do yet,” said Snappy. “Do you have something fun to do today?”

I don't know yet,” said Lucy. “What do you want to do Midge?”

Something fun,” smiled Midge. “Do you have an idea?”

Booker-T and I are thinking,” said Jake. “But we don't have an idea yet.”

You know what I want to do?” asked Lucy.

What?” asked Jake.

I want to try roller skating,” said Lucy. “They have the roller skates outside near the outside rink. We can try to do that today.”

Are you going to try that again, Midge?” asked Booker-T.

Sure,” said Midge. “Lets go and try. You and Jake can try it too.”

Oh, no,” said Jake. “I think putting wheels on my feet would be hard to do.”

You can do it,” snickered Lucy. “Lets go.”

I think we are going to try roller skating,” said Midge as she climbed down from the chair. “See you later Snappy.”

Have fun,” said Snappy.

The four crawled out the doggie door and hurried around the house to the front gate and strolled along the sidewalk to the roller skating rink near the skateboard ramp. In a rack next to the rink, they found the roller skates. Midge grabbed two skates and Lucy took two. Jake and Booker-T sat down near the rack.

Do you want to try?” asked Midge.

No,” said Jake. “You and Lucy try it.”

Come on Booker-T,” said Lucy. “Come do it with us.”

My feet don't like wheels,” said Booker-T.

How do you know?” asked Lucy.

All the way over here,” said Booker-T. “My feet kept saying “no wheels, Booker-T. No wheels.”

Your feet talk to you?” asked Midge.

Oh yes,” said Booker-T. “I have smart feet.”

Oh very funny,” said Lucy.

You two try it,” said Booker-T.

If you can do it,” said Jake. “Booker-T and I will try.”

Okay,” said Midge.

Midge and Lucy picked up the skates and walked onto the rink. Midge lifted one foot at a time and put it into a skate. Then the next one and when she put her fourth foot into a skate, the wheels started so roll.. Midge shuffled her feet trying to keep from falling. Faster her feet were sliding back and forth on the skates as she tried to keep from falling. She got them to slow down and then suddenly her feet rolled out from under her and she landed on her belly with all four feet going in a different direction.

Ouch!” shouted Midge. “He guys, can you help me stand up!”

You will just fall down again,” laughed Booker-T.

Come on Booker-T,” said Jake. “Lets go help her up.

Lucy was standing very still breathing slow so her wheels would not move.

Jake and Booker-T helped Midge up to her feet and then in a few minutes her feet went out from under her again and she was back on the ground.

Can you move, Lucy?” asked Jake.

I don't think so,” said Lucy as she suddenly sneezed and her feet went out from under her and she was laying on the ground like Midge.

I think wheels on our feet don't work too good,” laughed Lucy.

Can you pull the skates off our feet?” asked Midge.

You don't want to try again?” laughed Jake.

No,” said Midge shaking her head. “I think Lucy is right. I can't stand with the wheels on my feet. I think roller skating is better for the humans to do.”

Jake and Booker-T pulled the skates off Lucy and Midge and they ran home to rest.

Midge the Weight Lifter

The four friends were sitting on the Midge's front porch trying to decide what they want to do for the day.

What do you want to do, Midge?” asked Jake.

I don't know,” said Midge. “What do you want to do?”

We have done a lot of fun things,” said Jake. “Is there something new we can do?”

Hey guys,” said Gabby as he flew down from the trees and landed on the porch railing. “What are you doing?”

The Visitor

Midge was sitting on the front porch watching the little humans on their way to school carrying their little lunch boxes. Booker-T ran along the sidewalk and came through the gate and sat down with Midge on the porch.

Hi Booker-T,” greeted Midge. “What are you doing?”

I walked over to see what you are doing,” said Booker-T looking at some more little humans walking along the sidewalk. “Who's that Midge.”

Midge looked up and saw a little human girl walking through the gate. “I don't know,” said Midge. “Does she look lost?”

I don't know,” said Booker-T. “How do you know if someone is lost?”

Lets Go Sledding

Midge grabbed the lid off the trash can and strolled out the gate dragging it. She got to Booker-T's front gate and laid the can lid on the ground and ran to the back door. She crawled through the doggie door and entered the kitchen.

Booker-T!” called Midge. “Where are you?”

Hey Midge,” said Booker-T as he entered the kitchen. “What are you doing?”

It's snowing out there and a lot of snow is on the ground,” smiled Midge. “I want to go ride the sled down the hill.”

I thought the sled wasn't at your house now?” asked Booker-T.
