The Monsters Are Here

“Jake! Jake!” called Midge as she hurried into his front yard. “Where are you? Come quick!”

Jake came around the house. “What is going on?” asked Jake. “Where is Booker-T? Is he okay? Is Snappy okay?”

“Oh Jake,” said Midge all excited and nearly out of breath. “You have to come quick. There are monsters here!”

“Monsters?” asked Jake. “Where are there monsters? I don't think we have monsters in our city.”

“Oh yes we do,” said Midge. “I saw them! I saw them Jake!”

Zelda The Giraffe

“Come on,” said Midge. “I want to watch these funny little guys.”

“Those are monkeys,” said Gabby as he swooped down and landed on the top of the monkey cage.

“Hi Gabby,” said Midge. “What are you doing?”

“I was looking for you,” said Gabby. “I went to your house and to Jake's house but didn't see you guys anywhere.”

“Why were you looking for us?” asked Jake. “Is everything okay with you?”

“I was going to tell you about the zoo holding place,” said Gabby. “I saw it the other day and I remembered you wanted to go to the big zoo where Polly and I went but it is across town from here.”

“I heard about it on the TV when my owner was watching the news,” said Jake. “We didn't see anyone around so we came on in to see the animals.”

Midge and Friends Visit the Zoo Animals

“Hey Jake!” called Midge as she and Booker-T entered through the gate at Jake's place. “Where are you?”

“Maybe he is sleeping,” said Booker-T looking around.

“Lets check the back yard,” said Midge as she started around the corner of the house. “Come on Booker-T.”

Booker-T followed quickly behind Midge as she entered the back yard.

“Jake!” called Midge. “Where are you? Booker-T and I are here.”

“Hi Midge,” said Jake as he poked his head through the doggie door and came outside. “Hi Booker-T.”

“Are you ready to go to the zoo this morning?” asked Midge. “I want to see the animals.”

“We don't know if we can get in there yet,” said Jake.

The New Zoo Facility

 “Midge!” called Jake as he came through the gate at her house. “Where are you?”

“Hey Jake,” said Midge as she ran around the corner of the house from the back yard. “You sound excited about something.”

“Guess what?” he asked.

“What happened?” asked Midge.

“Remember the little meerkat we found laying on the bench in the park?” asked Jake.

“I remember,” agreed Midge. “Did you see him again?”

“No, but I heard something on the news last night when my owner was watching TV,” said Jake. “They are opening a little zoo near the school now. Maybe that little meerkat is in that new little zoo.”

“Maybe we can try to get in to see the animals,” said Midge. “Gabby likes that zoo on the other side of town.”

“This one is going to be a small zoo,” said Jake. “The man on the news said it will be a holding place for new animals being sent to the big zoo and being sent from the big zoo to other zoos in other cities.”

“Oh wow,” smiled Midge. “I want to go sneak in and see the animals.”

The New Cat in Town

Midge and Booker-T strolled along the sidewalk going to Jake's house. They had planned to meet this morning and go to the park for a little swim in the pond. They entered the yard and Midge called out to Jake.

“Hey Jake!” called Midge. “Where are you? Jake!”

Jake came walking around the house from the back yard. “I'm here in the back yard.”

“Are you ready to go to the park?” asked Booker-T.

“We want to visit Sylvester and Jenny,” smiled Midge.

“They will be happy to see you,” said Jake.

“It's warm today and we can go for little swim in the pond too,” said Midge.

Midge Helps New Friend

The three friends walked through the parking lot of the school on their way to Midge's place. As they passed the brick wall in front of the school, Midge heard a little voice.

“Help me will you?” said someone.

Midge stopped walking and stood a moment listening.

“What are you doing?” asked Booker-T when he stopped walking. “I thought you were thirsty?”

“I am,” said Midge. “Did you hear someone talking?”

“I didn't hear anyone,” said Booker-T. “Did you hear anyone Jake?”

“I didn't hear anything either,” agreed Jake. “Maybe you are hearing things.”

Search for a Swamp

“Hey Booker-T!” called Midge as she came through the gate at his house. “Where are you?”

“Hi Midge,” greeted Booker-T as he came out of the house through the little doggie door in the back door. “I was going to come to your house to see Snappy.”

“We can go back to visit Snappy before we go to Jake's house if you want,” said Midge.

“Okay,” agreed Booker-T. “Lets go.”

The two ran to Midge's place and into the house. They hurried across the kitchen to the living room where Snappy was sitting on the little bridge in his tank talking to Sammy and Jimmy.

Booker-T leaped into the chair beside the tank and then up on the top of the tank. “Hi Snappy,” said Booker-T.
