“Hey Midge!”
called Booker-T as he hurried through the gate and ran onto the front
porch.
“Hi Booker-T,”
said Midge as she came around to the front of the house.
“What are you
doing?”asked Booker-T.
“Nothing,”
smiled Midge. “I just ate breakfast. What are you doing?”
“Nothing,”
replied Booker-T.
“What are we
this morning?” asked Midge.
“What?” asked
Booker-T.
“We are a
couple of do nothing animals,” said Midge.
“What do you
want to do?” asked Booker-T.
“Lets get Jake
and go see what they are doing at the new park,” suggested Midge.
“Do you want to
ask Melody to come along?” asked Booker-T.
“Okay, lets go”
said Midge as she started walking toward the gate.
Booker-T hurried
behind her. As they turned onto the sidewalk, they saw Melody coming
toward them.
“Hi Melody,”
smiled Booker-T.
“Hi Booker-T,”
said Melody, “Hi Midge.”
“Hi Melody,”
greeted Midge.
“We are going
to Jake's house and then to the new park they are building,” said
Booker-T.
“Do you want to
come along?” asked Midge.
“I'd like that,”
said Melody. “what park are they building?”
“It has a lot
of rides in it,” said Booker-T. “Some of them don't look like
they go anywhere.”
“I think the
humans call it an amusement park,” said Midge.
“What is an
amusement park?” asked Melody.
“I think they go
there to have fun of some kind,” said Midge.
“Why do they
want to ride something that goes nowhere?” asked Melody.
“I don't know,”
said Midge.
“It is supposed
to be fun,” laughed Booker-T.
“What are we
going to do there?” asked Melody.
“Midge wants to
see what the construction people are doing,” said Booker-T.
“Okay, said
Melody.
The tree walked along the sidewalk to Jake's house. As they turned the corner, they saw two big trucks with the name, 'Jackson Carnivals' on the side with pictures of what they had seen at the park.

“I think the
trucks are going to the new park,” said Midge.
“How do you
know?” asked Melody.
“They had
pictures on the trucks like what we saw at the park,” said
Booker-T.
“What did it
say on the trucks?” asked Melody.
“It said
Jackson Carnival,” said Midge.
“What is
Jackson Carnival?” asked Melody.
“We don't
know,” said Booker-T. “Lets go see what they do.”
They walked
along the sidewalk and they saw the truck getting further away from
them. Soon it turned the corner and was out of sight. They went
through the gate at Jake's house.
“Jake!”
called Midge. “Where are you?”
“Lets go to the
back of the house and see if he is back there,” suggested Booker-T.
They walked to
the back yard, but didn't see Jake anywhere around. Midge poked her
head in through the doggie door into the kitchen and called to Jake.
“Jake!”
“Hi Midge,”
greeted Jake as he entered the kitchen. “What are you doing?”
“We want to go
to the park, so we came to get you to go with us,” said Midge.
“I think it is
too cold to swim in the pond today,” said Jake.
“We want to go
to the new park,” said Midge. “Melody came along with us today.”
“Okay, good,”
smiled Jake. “Now we are two dogs and two cats.”
“And the two
cats look like they could be twins,” laughed Midge. “Come on
Jake, lets go. Booker-T and Melody are outside waiting for us.”
Jake crawled
through the door behind Midge.
“Hi Melody,”
greeted Jake. “we are happy that you are coming with us today. I
hope you will join us more often.”
“Thank you,”
smiled Melody.
The four friends
scampered along the sidewalk to the new park. When they were close,
they could see the big trucks parked near the fence and men were
carrying little buildings into the park.
“What are
those for?” asked Melody.
“The sign on
the top of them says Tickets,” said Midge.
“Tickets?”
asked Melody. “What are tickets?”
“I think
people buy tickets at them,” suggested Jake.
“But what are
tickets?” asked Melody.
“Maybe it is
like when people buy train tickets,” said Midge.
“Maybe they are
buying tickets to ride the rides in the park,” said Jake.
They ran around to the opening in the fence and crawled into the park.

“What are
those things over there?” asked Melody
“I
think they are rides,” said Jake. “See the seats on them.”
“Oh,” smiled Melody. “Look! Over there! Horses!”
“They are not real,” said Midge.
“They are pretty colors,” said Melody.
“I want to rid the horses,” said Midge. “Or maybe go way up
in the air on that big wheel.”
“I would be scared,” said Melody. “Will they let you ride
it?”
“I don't think so,” sighed Jake.
“We will have to sneak a ride,” said Booker-T as he watched the
man pushing buttons and suddenly the big wheel started going around.
Suddenly someone came running and shouting, “Get out! Get out!”
The four hurried out the hole in the fence and started back to the
house.
“We will come when they all leave,” smiled Midge.
“When will
that be” asked Booker-T.
“This is long
way to come at night when they go home,” said Booker-T.
“Maybe we can
come in the early morning before they come to work,” suggested
Midge.
“Why do you
want to come when no one is here?” asked Melody. “Will they let
you come into the park when no one is here?”
“No,” said
Midge. “That is why we have to come very early.”
“Do you want
to come with us in the morning?” asked Booker-T.
“I don't
know,” said Melody. “Come get me in the morning and I will tell
you.”
“Okay,”
agreed Booker-T. “I will come get you in the morning.”
