Jake, Midge and Booker-T stood there watching the big cat as it paced back and forth in the cage.
"Hey!" said the big cat as it stopped pacing and stood staring at the three outside the cage. "What are you three doing? Why don't you let me out of here?"
"Hi big guy," smiled Booker-T.
"We can't open the gate," said Jake.
"We just came to visit you," said Midge.
"Who are you?" asked the big cat.
"That was close," said Jake, as they walked along the sidewalk on their way back to Jake's house. "I don't think those big guys like you going after their ball."
"I just wanted to get the ball for them," said Midge. "I like playing ball."
"Me too," agreed Booker-T.
"That baseball game is a funny game," said Midge. "The humans play funny games."
"I just like my owner to throw a ball so I can go run and get it and bring it back to her," said Jake.
"Me too, " smiled Midge. "I think that is fun."
"What are we going to do today?" asked Jake.
Midge and Booker-T walked along the sidewalk going to Jake's house. As they turned the corner, they saw a group of human boys walking in the street. They each had blue shirts and each had a different number on them.
"What are they doing?" asked Booker-T.
"I think they are the boys who are going to play baseball at the new field," said Midge. "Lets hurry to Jake's house."
They ran the rest of the way to Jake's house. When they entered his yard, they found him napping on the porch swing. Midge took her foot and pushed the swing.
"Hey Jake!" called Midge. "Wake up now!"
"I'm awake," said Jake as he sat up in the swing.
"Nope," laughed Booker-T. "You were asleep."
Midge stood watching her owner cooking food in the kitchen and setting up glasses and plates on the table. She made some kind of patties that she covered and put into the refrigerator but she didn't cook them. Back and forth across the kitchen floor she went cooking some things, washing some of the dishes. She looked me Midge and smiled.
"Good morning girl," said her owner. "I know you don't know what is going on. But that's okay Midge."
"I know there is going to be a party," thought Midge staring at her owner. "I want to eat and dance."
"You will have to stay out from under everyone's feet this afternoon," said Midge's owner. "I know you will be good Midge."
"Maybe Booker-T was right," thought Midge. "She don't want me there."
Booker-T walked into the front yard at Midge's house and found Midge dancing around singing.
"It's party time," sang Midge. "Oh yes, the part time is almost here."
"Hey Midge," said Booker-T. "What are you doing?"
"I'm happy, happy, happy," smiled Midge. "What are you doing?"
Midge was sitting on the front porch watching the little humans walking along the sidewalk on their way to school. Booker-T walked through the gate and sat down on the porch with her.
"What are you doing?" asked Booker-T.
"I was watching all the little humans walking to school," said Midge. "I think this is the last week of school and they will be out running around and playing."
"I think they are excited for summer to come," said Booker-T.
Midge and Booker-T started walking along the sidewalk to Jake's house. From above, Gabby flew down and landed on the sidewalk in front of them.
"Where are you doing?" asked Gabby.
"Where are we doing, Midge?" asked Booker-T.
"You don't know what you are doing, Booker-T?" asked Gabby.
"No," smiled Booker-T. "I just started to walk with Midge, but she didn't tell me what were are going to do."
