The New Golf Course

Midge and Booker-T started walking along the sidewalk to Jake's house. From above, Gabby flew down and landed on the sidewalk in front of them.

"Where are you doing?" asked Gabby.

"Where are we doing, Midge?" asked Booker-T.

"You don't know what you are doing, Booker-T?" asked Gabby.

"No," smiled Booker-T. "I just started to walk with Midge, but she didn't tell me what were are going to do."

"Oh," laughed Gabby. "You are joking with me."

"Yes," laughed Midge. "He is joking. We are going to Jake's house."

"What are you doing, Gabby?" asked Booker-T.

"Just flying around and saw you walking along the sidewalk," replied Gabby. "Did you guys hear that they make a golf course out by the farm where you go visit the cows and horses."

"What is a golf course?" asked Booker-T.

"I don't know," said Midge. "Do you know what it is Gabby?"

"I just came from there," said Gabby.

"What is it?" asked Midge.

"It is a bunch of humans walking around with funny sticks and hitting a little white ball around," said Gabby. "Some humans are walking around, carrying a big bag that looks heavy. Inside the bag are a bunch of those funny sticks."

"Why are they hitting little balls?" asked Booker-T.

"I don't know, " said Gabby. "When they hit the ball, they go walking to find the ball and then they hit it again."

"Lets go see what they are doing," said Booker-T. "Maybe we can go get the balls for them and then they don't have to go find them."

"Lets go get Jake first," said Midge.

"Oh yes," said Booker-T. "I forgot we were on the way to Jake's house. Lets go so we can go see what this golf course thing is."

Midge and Booker-T hurried along the side walk and Gabby flew above them. They ran into Jake's front yard and found him sitting on the swing.

"Hi Jake," said Midge. "What are you doing?"

"I am just sitting here watching the cars go by," said Jake.

"Why?" asked Booker-T.

"It was something to do," said Jake. "What are you guys doing?"

"We were coming to your house when Gabby came and told us about a new golf course," said Midge.

"What is a golf course?" asked Jake.

"Gabby said the humans go there to hit little white balls with a funny looking stick," said Midge. "Do you want to go and see what it is?"

"Where is it?" asked Jake.

"It is near the farm where you visit the cows," said Gabby. "I was flying over there when I saw a white ball fly past me. I almost got hit by a flying ball."

"Lets go look, Jake," said Booker-T.

The three started walking along the sidewalk with Gabby flying above. As they turned the corner near the farm, suddenly a ball came falling from the sky and bounced on the sidewalk near the three.

"It's a flying ball!" said Booker-T. "Where did it come from?"

"It came from the new golf course," said Gabby.

"That is scary," said Midge as she picked up the ball. "That ball just missed me."

"Here comes some humans," said Gabby.

"I see them," said Jake. "What are they doing?"

"I don't know," said Gabby. "They are looking around the ground."

"Do you think they are looking for this flying ball?" asked Midge.

"Maybe," said Gabby.

Midge held her head up high and she stomped along the sidewalk in the direction of the humans. When she got near them, she looked up at them and then dropped the ball in front of them. The humans looked at each other and one of them bent over to pick up the ball. Midge glared at him. He picked up the ball and the four humans walked back onto the golf course.

Midge and the others walked onto the golf course. and stood looking around. There were many humans with funny sticks, hitting little white balls.

"Why are they hitting those balls?" asked Booker-T.

"I don't know," said Jake.

"Do you think it is some kind of game they are playing?" asked Booker-T.

"Maybe," said Jake.

"That is a silly game," laughed Midge. "They hit a ball and go chase it."

"We chase balls that our owner throws for us to go get," said Jake.

"Why do they chase their own balls?" asked Midge.

"Maybe they don't have a dog to go chase them for them," said Booker-T.

"Maybe we can go chase the balls for them and bring them back to the humans," suggested Jake.

"Look," said Booker-T. "That human just hit that ball with the funny stick."

"I'll go chase the ball and bring it back to him," said Midge as she started to run toward the ball.

She picked up the ball and ran with it back to the human who hit it. She stood in front of him and dropped the ball at his feet.

The other three humans who were with him, started to laugh. "Hey Joe," said one of the humans. "I think the dog wants to play fetch."

"Very funny," said Joe. "How do we play golf with a dog chasing our golf balls?"

They tried to chase the dogs and the cat out of the area. "Go home!" screamed one of the humans.

"I don't think they want us to chase their little white balls," sighed, Booker-T.

"This game is no fun," said Midge. "Lets go home."

"Lets go to the park and ride the train," suggested Jake.

"Okay," said Midge.

The three walked off the golf course and went to the park to ride the little train. Gabby followed along above them.

"I will see you guys later," said Gabby as he flew away.
