The three friends
hurried along the sidewalk to the site of the new community pool.
When they reached the place, they found a huge fence around the
place. They walked round the fence looking for a hole that they could
see inside from.
“Jake, there's
no pool here and look,” said Midge. “There is no building with
an inside pool either. I really wanted to go swimming.”
“What does
the sign say Jake?” asked Booker-T.
“It says the
pool and building will be ready in June,” said Jake. “They just
started to build it Midge.”
“I thought it
was ready,” said Midge as she peaked through the hole in the fence.
“Look at that big hole in the ground.”
“I thought
it was ready too,” said Jake. “I guess I didn't read all of the
sign the other day.”
“Is that big
tractor digging the pool?” asked Booker-T.
“I think
so,” said Jake.
“Do you want
to watch the tractor dig the hole?” asked Midge.
“Not
really,” said Jake. “Do you want to watch? Maybe we can find
something better to do.”
“What do you
want to do?” asked Midge.
“I don't
know,” said Jake. “Lets go see what is going on at the school.”
“Is there
going to be something over there today?” asked Midge.
“When is that
big picnic and concert?” asked Booker-T.
“I think it
is tomorrow,” said Jake.
“Hey Jake,”
said Midge. “Look it's snowing.”
“We can
build a snowman,” sang Booker-T.
“How can we
build a snowman/” asked Jake. “We don't have any hands.”
“We sure are
boring today,” laughed Booker-T. “We can't go swimming because
it is just a big hole in the ground. We can't build a snowman
because we don't have any hands.”
“I guess we
are,” agreed Midge. “Lets go to the school area and see if
anything is happening there.”
“Okay,”
said Jake as they started walking along the sidewalk.
“Hey, Look
over there,” said Booker-T.
“What is it?”
asked Midge.
“I don't
know,” said Jake. “Lets go check it out.”
They walked to
the strange vehicle that was parked near the skateboard ramp and
walked around it, trying to see in the windows. Jake put his front
paws on the side and tried to peer into the window, when suddenly a
deep voice was heard.
“Step back
and take your hands off of me,” said a voice.
“What said
that?” asked Midge looking around.
“I think
this vehicle said it,” said Jake as he stepped back staring at the
vehicle.
“Cars don't
talk,” said Midge.
“This one
did,” said Jake. “This one really don't look like a car we have
ever seen before.”
“What is
it?” asked Booker-T.
“I don't
know,” said Jake.
“Did you see
anything inside?” asked Midge.
“No, it was
too dark in there,” said Jake. “And then it started talking.”
“Do you
think it's an alien from outer space?” asked Midge.
“Maybe this
is,” suggested Jake. “It is really strange looking.”
“Jake!”
called Midge. “Look out, the door is opening.”
They moved
further back from the strange vehicle as the door opened and someone
exited the vehicle. He stood and looked around.
“Hello,”
said a voice.
“It talks,”
said Jake. “Do you think it will understand us if we talk to it?”
“What is
it?” asked Midge. “I never saw anyone with blue and green hair
before.”
“He has
funny clothes too,” smiled Booker-T staring at him. “And his face
looks like metal. Is he wearing a mask?”
“Why is he
just standing there?” asked Midge.
“Maybe he's
waiting for some more aliens to come out,” said Jake.
“Do you think
he is really an alien?' asked Midge.
Suddenly the
alien moved and started walking up the sidewalk.
“Where is it
going?” asked Booker-T.
“Lets follow
him,” suggested Jake as they slowly walked behind.
“He's going
to the picnic tents,” said Midge.
“Do you
think aliens like picnics?” asked Booker-T.
“Maybe,”
said Jake.
Suddenly the
strange looking vehicle passed them and they saw it drive over to the
tents.
“There was
someone else in that thing” said Jake as he jumped when he heard it
coming.
At the tents a
normal looking man got out of the vehicle. Someone inside the tent
came out to greet him.
“Hello
George,” said the man from the vehicle.
“I sure do
like your robot friend,” said the man from the tent. “The green
and blue hair is definitely different. It will be great in the show
tomorrow.”
“It's a
robot Midge,” said Jake.
“Wow,”
said Booker-T. “That's too cool. We have to come see the show
Midge.”
“I think so
too,” said Jake. “I want to see what the robot is going to do.”
They agreed
and decided to meet a Jake's house to go.
