Midge sat on the
front porch, staring at the clouds as they slowly moved across the
sky. Some seemed to form shapes and Midge watched to see what images
would appear.
“What are you
doing Midge?” asked Booker-T as he sat down beside her.
“I'm
watching the clouds,” said Midge. “What do you see in the sky?”
“I see white
clouds,” said Booker-T.
“I see a
white horse over there,” said Midge pointing to the big cloud above
her.
“There are
no horses in the sky,” laughed Booker-T.
“Don't you
see it Booker-T?” asked Midge. “Look really hard.”
Booker-T
stared hard at the sky. “No,” said Booker-T. “I just see
fluffy clouds.”
“What are
you two looking at?” asked Jake as he sat down in front of the
porch. “Are you watching for more space aliens?”
“She's
seeing things Jake,” said Booker-T. “All I see are big white
fluffy clouds in the sky, but Midge is seeing things and not the
clouds.”
“What does
Midge see?” asked Jake.
“She said
there was a horse up there,” said Booker-T. “Do you see a horse
up there?”
“No,”
said Jake. “I see clouds too, Midge.”
“You looked
too late,” sighed Midge. “The clouds have changed and the horse
is gone now.”
“Guess it
ran away,” laughed Booker-T.
“The clouds
are pretty in the blue sky,” said Jake. “Don't you think so?”
“Look over
there Jake and Booker-T,” said Midge. “See the princess?”
Jake and
Booker-T stared at the clouds but saw no princess in the sky.
“I don't
see it Jake,” said Booker-T. “How does she see something and we
don't see it?”
“Maybe
because Midge has a better imagination than we do,” suggested Jake.
“Okay you
guys,” said Midge. “Look at the clouds in the sky as they slowly
move across the sky. The clouds will change shapes as they move.
When they change shapes, see if they look like things like animals
and maybe an angel.”
“Look
Jake!” said Booker-T as he stared at the sky and got all excited.
“What do
you see?” asked Jake.
“An
airplane,” laughed Booker-T.
“That's not
a cloud,” said Midge. “It's a real airplane.”
“But it's
in the sky with those clouds,” said Booker-T. “You said to see
what I could see in the sky and I can see an airplane.”
“And over
there Booker-T.” said Jake. “It's a bird.”
“Hey
guys,” said Midge. “You are being mean.”
“No,”
said Jake. “we are only teasing you. We just don't see the
different shapes in the clouds.”
“A shape
of something will appear and before you know it, it floats away and
changes shapes again,” said Midge. “My owner used to lay in the
grass and watch the clouds make the different shapes. Her brother
used to lay there with her and he saw them too.”
“Maybe it's
a human thing,” suggested Jake.
“We will
try again Midge,” said Booker-T.
“Okay,”
said Midge. “Watch the clouds as they move and what do you see?”
“I see
moving clouds,” said Jake. “Big ones and little ones slowly
floating on the air.”
“Oh,”
said Booker-T. “I see a polar bear up there.”
“Wow,
that's good Booker-T,” said Midge.
“Do you
think I can see an orange and black tiger up there?” asked
Booker-T.
“It's only
white clouds,” said Midge. “It can look like the tiger but only
in shape. Not the color.”
“Look
there Midge,” said Jake. “I see a tree. This is fun.”
“The sky
is a stage, Jake,” said Midge. “And the clouds are the actors on
that stage.”
“Wow,”
said Booker-T. “I never thought of it like that.”
“I guess
those stormy days are actors being bad,” laughed Jake.
