Jake, Midge and
Booker-T hurried along the sidewalk to the gym parking lot where the
people had bleachers, a ring and a large circus sized tent set up for
the cat show. People were entering the tent carrying cat carriers.
At the back of the tent, they could see tables set up where the
owners set the carriers on while they tended to their cats. Some had
their cats out of the carriers and were holding them as they brushed
their fir. There was a pretty fluffy white cat with a pink bow on
her head that Booker-T noticed.
“She is
pretty,” smiled Booker-T as he started to walk to the back of the
tent.
“Where are
you going?” asked Midge.
“I want to
talk to her,” smiled Booker-T.
“Her owner
may not like you talking to her,” said Jake. “You know how
snooty some of them are.”
“I will run
if she gets angry,” said Booker-T as he walked on to the back of
the tent and got close to the table where the pretty white cat was
now standing.
“Hello,”
smiled Booker-T looking up at the white cat on the table.
The white cat
looked down and stared at him but didn't say a word.
“What is
your name?” asked Booker-T. “I think you are really pretty with
your pink bow. Do you like tigers?”
“I'm
Snowflake,” said the white cat. “You look like a brave little
tiger.”
“Hi
Snowflake,” said Booker-T. “I'm Booker-T.”
“Are you in
the show today?” asked Snowflake.
“No,”
said Booker-T. “My owner didn't enter me.”
“Why are
you here if you aren't in the show?” asked Snowflake.
“I wanted
to see what kind of cats are in the show,” said Booker-T. “I
might sneak into the show.”
“The people
won't like that,” said Snowflake. “I think you have to follow
the rules to be in it.”
“I know,”
said Booker-T. “But I really want to be in the show. My friend,
Midge sneaked into a dog show one time.”
“Hey!”
screamed a woman who came running toward the table. “Shoo shoo! Get
away from my Snowflake!”
“You better
run,” said Snowflake. “She sounds angry and will be mean if you
don't go.”
Booker-T ran
back from the table and hurried back to where Midge and Jake waited.
On his way he turned and shouted back to Snowflake. “Maybe I will
see you later.”
“She is a
really pretty cat,” said Midge as Booker-T joined them. “Did
she tell you what her name is?”
“She said it
was Snowflake,” smiled Booker-T.
“Are you
going to sneak into the show when they start?” asked Jake.
“I don't
know,” said Booker-T as he said down on the ground.
“Good
afternoon ladies and gentlemen,” said the announcer over the loud
speakers. “We are here to hold our first cat show at the request
of many cat owners. I hope you will all enjoy seeing the different
cats we have entered here. The first group up will be what we call
the 'Alley Cat'.”
Four owners
walked into the ring with their cat carriers and placed them on the
table in the center of the ring. One by one, they took their cats
out of the carriers for the audience to see. As they were showing
their cats, Booker-T suddenly got up and ran into the ring. He began
to strut around the table proudly holding his head up high.
“Who's cat
is that in the center parading around the table?” asked the
announcer. “Does this cat belong to someone?”
No one
answered and no one came to the center of the ring to get him and
Booker-T continued to walk around the ring.
“Someone go
in and run that cat out of the ring,” said the announcer.
Two young men
came hurrying into the ring and chased Booker-T out of the ring. He
ran to where Jake and Midge stood watching him walk around the ring.
“Hurry
Booker-T!” called Midge. “Run!”
Booker-T
caught up to Midge and Jake. They all ran out of the tent and
hurried along the sidewalk back to Jake's house where they sat down
on the porch and were glad they got away from there without getting
caught.
