To the Movies

Jake strolled along the sidewalk on his way to Midge's house. He turned the corner and hurried across the street. As he came close to Booker-T's house, he saw him coming around the corner of his house so he stopped at the gate to wait for him.

"Hey there, Booker-T!" called Jake.

"Hi Jake," greeted Booker-T as he went through the gate to join Jake on his walk to Midge's house. "What are we going to do today?"

"I don't know yet," replied Jake. "We have to ask Midge what she would like to do."

They walked through the gate and into the yard at Midge's house and found Midge sitting on her front porch.

"Hi Midge," said Jake as they walked up to the porch. "What are you doing?"

"I'm just sitting here thinking," said Midge.

"What are you thinking about?" asked Booker-T. "Are you trying to think of something to do?"

"We have a lot of things we can do," suggested Jake. "We can go see the animals at the petting zoo or go inside the building and see what animals are there today."

"Or we can go to the pond at the park and swim while the little humans are in school," said Booker-T.

"I think it is getting too cold to swim in the water," said Midge.

"We can go to the farm and visit the animals there," said Jake. "We can go to that western village they made. Remember that place?"

"What are you thinking?" asked Booker-T.

"I don't know," sighed Midge. "Do you think we can sneak into the Movie Palace."

"They made us get out of there," said Jake. "I think they will do that again."

"We could sneak in and sit in the back so they can't see us," said Midge.

"How do we get past the guy at the door?" asked Booker-T.

"That will be a problem," said Jake. "We can't sneak past him."

"Maybe if we sat at the exit door in the back, someone will walk out and we can run in really fast before the door shuts," said Midge.

"We can try that," said Booker-T.

"Let's go try," said Midge. "If we can't get in, maybe we can go see what animals are at the zoo transfer building."

"Okay," agreed Jake as they walked through the gate and hurried along the sidewalk to the Movie Palace.

When they got there, they saw a long line of people outside waiting to go in.

"Why are they standing out here and not going in?" asked Midge.

Jake stood and tried to read all the signs outside the building. "What time is it?" asked Jake.

"I don't know," laughed Booker-T. "I don't wear a watch. I'm just a cat."

"And I'm just a dog," laughed Midge. "We don't wear a watch. Look in that window and see if you can see the clock."

Jake walked up close enough so he could see in the window and searched for a clock. He saw one on the wall. He ran back to the Midge and Booker-T.

"The clock in there shows 2:15," said Jake.

"When does the movie start?" asked Midge.

"The sign in that window says 2:30," said Jake.

"The other movie maybe almost finished," said Booker-T.

"I think so too," said Midge. "Lets hurry to the back of the building. Maybe they will come out the back door and we can run in fast."

"Okay," said Jake. "Lets hurry."

As they ran around to the back of the building, in a few minutes, they started to see humans walking out the back door.

"Lets hurry," said Midge as she started for the door.

The three stood a minute and when 4 or 5 humans came walking out, they ran past them in through the open door. It was little dark inside as the three slowly walked along the wall into the theater.

"Hurry," said Jake. "Lets go up there to the back and find a seat to sit in before the humans come in to watch the movie.

"What movie are we going to watch Jake?" asked Booker-T.

"I hope it is an animal movie," said Midge.

"Me too," said Jake.

They hurried up the aisle to the seats in the back and found three and sat down. They sat watching all the humans as they started to walk into the theater and take a seat. Everyone was talking and the popcorn smelled so good as they sniffed the air.
"Wish we had some popcorn," sighed Midge.

"Me too," said Jake.

"I'm hungry," said Booker-T.

"We can't get any popcorn," said Jake. "We just have to watch the movie and smell it."

"I know," said Booker-T.

"If you see someone coming," said Jake. "We need to duck down so they don't see us."

In a few minutes, the lights in the theater started to lower and they were showing something on the screen.

"Is this the movie?" asked Midge.

"I think so," said Booker-T.

They sat and watched, but it didn't look interesting to them.

"I don't think this is the movie," said Jake.

"What is it?" asked Midge.

"Hey look!" said Booker-T. "It is a cartoon. A singing box of popcorn and a dancing glass of coke."

"That is funny," said Midge. "I didn't know popcorn and coke could dance and sing."

"My owner's popcorn don't sing and dance when she gets some," said Booker-T.

"Mine don't either," said Jake.

"Next time my owner gets some popcorn out of the kitchen, I will try and talk to it," said Midge. "Maybe it will answer me."

"I think this is just a cartoon about popcorn and coke," suggested Jake.

Suddenly scary music began to play and a strange looking face appeared on the screen with a scary laugh. Behind it the darkness was lit by the flashes of lightning. The wind howled through the trees as the scary laugh began again.

"What does that say, Jake?" asked Midge.

"It said, Ghost of Halloween" said Jake. "I think this is a Halloween movie."

"Do you want to watch it?" asked Booker-T. "I don't like scary movies."

"I don't either," said Midge. "They scare me. When my owner watches them, I always get really close to her and hide my head so I don't see it."

Suddenly, something leaped out from behind the bush and you could hear someone scream.

"Lets get out of here," said Jake as the three ran through the lobby and out the front doors. They ran down the sidewalk going to Jake's house.
