Midge and Booker-T
walked along the sidewalk to Jake's house. When they turned the
corner, they saw something very big sitting in the yard across the
street from Jake's house.
“Do you
think the space aliens have landed?” whispered Midge. “Lets get
Jake.”
They hurried
through the gate and ran to the porch. Midge couldn't control
herself. She was jumping up and down and very excited.
“Jake,
Jake!” screamed Midge. “The aliens have landed from space.”
“I haven't
seen any of them,” said Jake. “have you seen any Booker-T?”
“I haven't
seen any either, Jake,” said Booker-T. “But Midge might be
right. I saw their space ship.”
“Where?”
asked Jake.
“Over there,”
said Booker-T, pointing to the house across the street.
“All right,”
said Jake. “Lets go see what you saw.”
The three
started walking across the yard from the porch to the gate. “Come
on Midge,” said Jake. “I think you saw something, but I don't
think it was a space ship.”
“But I saw it
too,” said Booker-T. “I don't know what it is, so maybe it is a
space ship.”
Jake hurried
across the street and ran around the house to the back yard with
Midge and Booker-T running behind him.
“Look there,
Jake,” said Midge. “There it is.”
“Wow,”
said Jake. “It does look like a space ship.”
“Do you
think it is real?” asked Booker-T.
“I don't
know,” said Jake as he walked around the big object in the back
yard. “Let me try and check it out.”
Jake walked
slowly around the object starring at everything.
“What do you
think?” asked Midge.
“I think it
is too small for a space ship,” said Jake. “The space aliens
would have to be two feet tall to fit inside.”
“Maybe they
are,” said Midge. “We never met one before.”
“Can you see
in that window?” asked Booker-T.
Jake stood on
his hind feet and put his front paws on the side of the space ship .
He pressed his nose against the window. Inside he saw two seats that
looked like car seats. He also saw what looked like a lot of buttons
and levers and some gauges of some kind.
“What do you
see Jake?” asked Booker-T.
“I see two
seats in front of a long table and many switches and levers,” said
Jake. “Maybe it really is a space alien ship.”
“Where are
the two little space aliens who sit in the seats?” asked Booker-T.
“Maybe
roaming the neighborhood check it out,” said Jake.
“Do you
think they will hurt someone?” asked Midge. “Maybe we should try
and find them, Jake.”
“We don't
know what direction they went,” said Jake. “And we don't even
know what they look like. How would we find them.”
“Maybe they
look like the purple people eater,” laughed Booker-T.
“That is
just a song,” laughed Jake.
“We just
have to look for someone strange looking and only two feet tall,”
said Midge.
“If they
look like regular humans,” said Jake. “We will never find them.”
“Maybe if we
just wait here,” said Booker-T. “They will come back soon.”
“Jake,”
said Midge. “You live right over there so you can watch all the
time and maybe you will see them.”
“If I watch
all the time,” said Jake. “When do I get to sleep?”
“Lets go sit
on your front porch and watch Jake,” Booker-T.
“Okay,”
said Jake as they started to walk across the street. “Look Midge!”
Midge looked
up the street and saw two little people walking along the sidewalk
with silver helmets and red suits. “Do you think they are the
space aliens?”
“Maybe
Midge,” said Jake.
They watched
as the two little men went into the back yard. They went inside the
space ship but they didn't take off into the sky.
“Maybe their
space ship is broken,” suggested Midge.
The two little
men came back outside and took off their helmets.
“Look Jake,”
said Booker-T. “They look like little humans.”
“Maybe they
took over the bodies of the human kids, Jake,” said Midge.
“I don't
think so,” laughed Jake. “Those two little boys live in that
house. I have seen them playing in the yard sometimes.”
“Look over
there near the curb,” said Booker-T. “It is a big box and there
is a picture on the side of it that looks like that space ship.”
“Lets go
check it out,” said Midge.
They hurried
to the street to check out the box.
“What does
it say on the box?” asked Booker-T.
“It says,
“Fantasy Toys,” said Jake. “Alien Space Ship for little boys
who want to play space alien.”
“It's a
play house that looks like a space ship,” said Booker-T.
“I guess
no space aliens are here again,” said Midge. “Just kids playing
like space men.”
“Sorry
Midge,” said Jake.
“One of
these days, they will come,” said Midge. “I really think they
are out there in space somewhere.”
“Keep
dreaming Midge,” said Jake. “One day, maybe they will come.”
