Jake sat on his
front porch watching the kids across the street playing on their
swings and the big trampoline. They were laughing and sometimes
singing. The night was slowly moving in as the moon and stars began
to appear in the sky. He closed his eyes and made a wish.
“What did
you wish for Jake?” asked Midge.
“Hi Midge,”
smiled Jake. “What are you doing here in the evening time?”
“My owner is
working late today so I took a walk but time for me to go back home,”
said Midge.
“Okay,”
said Jake. “I guess I was wishing to see a space alien. You keep
talking about them so I want to see one.”
“So you
believe they are out there some where?” asked Midge.
“Maybe they
are out there somewhere,” said Jake. “If they really are out
there, I would like to see one some day.”
Midge sat
staring into the evening skies looking for signs of a space ship. As
they skies became darker, more stars appeared.
“Where is
Booker-T?” asked Jake.
“Maybe he is
in bed sleeping,” suggested Midge.
“So, Why are
you at my house in the evening time?” asked Jake. “You never
come here to the house at night time.”
“You asked
me to come,” smiled Midge. “Don't you remember?”
“No,” said
Jake. “when did I ask you to come?”
“Today,”
said Midge. “Are you having memory problems?”
“No,”
said Jake with a puzzled look. “I don't think so. Did I asked
Booker-T to come too?”
“No,”
said Midge. “You didn't ask him to come.”
“But why
did I ask you to come?” asked Jake. “I don't remember asking.
Did I tell you why?”
“I don't
know why,” said Midge. “I thought maybe you had a secret you
wanted to tell me.”
“We three
are always together, said Jake. “Unless one of us have gone to the
vet.”
“Maybe
Booker-T is at home and sleeping,” said Midge.
“We have
your friend in our space ship,” said a deep voice.
Jake and
Midge looked up and saw a dark figure standing in the shadows. They
looked at each other .
“Do you see
someone there?” whispered Jake.
“I see
something,” said Midge.
“I can hear
you even when you whisper,” said the dark figure. “You do see
me. I know you do.”
“Where is
your space ship?” asked Midge.
“It is over
that hill over there.” pointed the dark figure. “You made a wish
Jake, so here we are.”
“You did
tell me you made a wish Jake,” said Midge.
“I made a
wish to some day see space aliens,” said Jake. “But I didn't want
the space aliens to take our friend, Booker-T.”
“We didn't
take him,” said the dark figure. “Booker-T wanted to come see
our ship so we took him to see the ship.”
“Who are
you?” asked Jake.
“They call
me Buster,” said the dark figure.
“Why don't
you come over here and sit on the porch so we can see you better,”
said Midge.
“I look
different than you do,” said Buster. “I might scare you.”
“That's
okay,” said Jake. “We don't care what you look like.”
Buster slowly
walked out of the dark shadows and into the light from the porch.
“Promise you won't be scared.”
“You look
like a human,” said Midge.
“You aren't
afraid of the humans?” asked Buster.
“No,”
said Jake. “We live with a human who takes care of us every day.”
“Do you
want to come and see my space ship?” asked Buster.
“Oh yes,”
said Midge. “Lets go Jake. I want to see the ship.”
Jake and
Midge started running after Buster who moved very fast along the
sidewalk.
“Jake!”
called Midge. “Wake up!”
“Wake up
Jake,” called Booker-T. “Wake up. You are talking about space
aliens.”
“Hi
Booker-T,” said Jake blinking his eyes. “You are back.”
“Back from
where?” asked Booker-T. “I didn't go anywhere.”
“You
didn't go to Buster's space ship?” asked Jake.
“Who is
Buster and what space ship are you talking about?” asked Midge.
“Booker-T and I came to you house and you were sleeping and your
legs were moving fast. We woke you up.”
“Oh wow,”
said Jake. “It all seemed so real.”
“Sometimes
your dreams so seem real,” smiled Midge.
“Did your
owner watch a space movie last night?” asked Booker-T.
“She
watched some kind of movie,” said Jake. “It was some kind of
movie where the space aliens came to earth to talk to the humans. I
guess when I went to sleep out here waiting for you, I started
dreaming about them.”
“We are
here alone,” smiled Booker-T.
“Do we
really know if we are alone?” asked Midge. “they could be here
some where watching us every day.”
Jake and
Booker-T smiled at each other..
