Midge hurried to
Booker-T's house and ran through the gate.
"Hey
Booker-T, Where are you?" called Midge.
"Hi
Midge," smiled Booker-T as he came around the house from the
back yard.
"What are
you doing?" asked Midge.
"I just
finished eating my breakfast," said Booker-T. "What are
you doing?"
"Nothing,"
said Midge. "I'm just standing here."
"Did you
have a good Thanksgiving with your owner's family?" asked
Booker-T.
"Yes,"
said Midge. "There was lot of good food. Did you have a good
day?"
"We did
too," said Booker-T. "Everything smelled so good when she
was cooking.
"I know,"
said Midge. "And now it is another day."
"What are
we going to do today?" asked Booker-T.
"Maybe
we can go to the park and ride the train," suggested Midge.
"Or
maybe we can go to the petting zoo," said Booker-T. "We
haven't been to the farm to visit the cows lately either."
"The farm
would be fun," said Midge. "I like going to see the cows."
"Lets go
see Jake and ask what he wants to do," said Booker-T. "I
like seeing the cows too and they have good milk to drink when we are
there."
"Maybe
Jake will want to go see the cows too," said Midge. "He
likes the horses too."
"Lets
go,"s aid Booker-T as he ran toward the gate with Midge running
behind him.
As they
started walking toward Jake's house, they saw Jake walking toward
them.
"Hi
guys," greeted Jake as he caught up with them. "What are
you doing?"
"We are
walking to your house," smiled Midge.
"But I'm
not there," laughed Jake with a wink.
"Funny,"
said Midge. "I know now that you are not there. You are here
with us."
"Do you
want to go see the cows and the horses at the farm today?" asked
Booker-T.
"I'd like
that too," said Jake. "Lets go."
They started
walking away from the house and going toward the school area on the
way to the farm.
"Hey Jake!"
said Midge. "Look over there. what are they doing?"
Near the farm,
stood tractors and trucks. A big tractor was digging dirt and a large
truck with a big round thing turning round and round.
"What is
that funny looking truck?" asked Booker-T.
"I think
they call it a cement mixer," said Jake. "I saw one of
them when they were building the house across the street from my
house."
"What do
they do?" asked Booker-T.
"They dump
cement on the ground," said Jake.
"Lets go
see what they are making," said Midge.
They walked to
where the tractors were.
"Do you
know what they are making Jake?" asked Booker-T.
"The sign
over there says, 'Caution, Road Construction'," said Jake. "I
think they are making a new road here."
"Wow
there are a lot of tractors to make a road," aid Midge. "Why
are they making a road here?"
"Maybe
they are going to build more houses out here," said Jake.
"If they
do, they will need a nice new road," said Jake.
"Lets go
see the cement truck," said Booker-T.
They walked
to where the truck was pouring the concrete out of the trunk They
stood near the road where the truck poured the concrete and some men
were using some kind of wooden broom thing making it smooth. Midge
walked toward the road edge.
"What are
you going to do, Midge?" asked Jake.
"I want to
see the concrete," said Midge.
"Don't
get too close to it," warned Booker-T.
"I
won't," said Midge.
She walked to
the edge and started to reach out with her front paw to touch the
concrete and her feet slipped and she fell into the concrete.
"Jake!"
screamed Midge. "Help me out!"
"Oh
Midge," said Jake. "Booker-T told you not to get too
close. Now you have concrete all over you."
"How do I
get this off me?" asked Midge.
"Come on,
lets run to the farm," said Jake. "They have a little pond
there and you can wash it off there."
"Road
Construction is dangerous, Jake," said Midge as she splashed int
he pond cleaning off the concrete."
Jake and
Booker-T sat down laughing at her covered in Concrete.
"Road
construction isn't dangerous if you stay away from it," said
Booker-T. "But you always want to get in there and see up close
what is going on."
"Lets go
see the cows now," said Midge. "I think I'm all cleaned up
now."
