Do You Have an Idea

Midge and Booker-T walked along the sidewalk on their way to Jake's house. As they turned the corner on his street, they saw Jake coming their way.

"Hi Jake," smiled Midge. "What are you doing?"

"I was coming to your house," said Jake. "What are you doing?"

"We are coming to your house," laughed Midge.

"It is a good thing we walk the same sidewalk," said Booker-T.

"Why?" asked Midge.

"Because if we walked on a different sidewalk," said Booker-T. "Jake would be at your house and we would be at his house."

"I guess you are right," laughed Jake.

"What do you want to do today?" asked Midge. "It is a little cold today to go swim in the pond at the park."

"I don't know what to do," said Jake. "I was hoping you had an idea. You always have an idea."

"What do you want to do, Booker-T?" asked Midge. "Do you have an idea?"

"No," said Booker-T as he sat down on the sidewalk. "I am thinking."

"Come on," said Jake. "Lets go to my house and think."

The three walked the short distance to Jake's house and sat down on the porch. Gabby flew down from the trees and landed on the porch railing.

"What are you guys doing?" asked Gabby.

"We are thinking," said Midge.

"Why are you thinking?" asked Gabby. "What are you thinking about?"

"We don't know what we want to do today," said Jake. "No one has an idea today."

"Midge don't have an idea?" asked Gabby. "She always has an idea."

"No," sighed Midge. "I don't know what to do today. Humans have a lot to do but we animals don't have as much to do."

"But you can't do the human things," said Gabby. "You are good with thinking up an idea."

"I want to go ride the train at the park," said Booker-T.

"That is a good idea," said Jake. "Do you want to ride the train too, Midge?"

"Okay," smiled Midge. "Lets go the park and ride the train."

They all smiled and hurried through the gate and started walking along the sidewalk to the park. At the corner, they stopped and looked both ways before crossing. They ran across the street and entered the park. They stood and looked around and saw no one around the park.

"Where is everyone?" asked Midge.

"I don't know," said Jake. "There is always people here."

"It is really quiet," said Booker-T. "Do you see anything up there, Gabby?"

"No," said Gabby. "Wait here and I will fly around the park really fast."

Midge, Jake and Booker-T sat down as Gabby flew away to look around the park. In a few minutes, he flew back and landed on the ground near the three.

"What did you see?" asked Midge.

"Everyone is over by the pool," said Gabby.

"What are they doing?" asked Midge.

"They are watching some little humans playing with a ball," said Gabby.

"Can we go play with them?" asked Midge. "Lets go."

"I think they are playing some kind of game with the ball," said Gabby. "Here comes the little train around the park. Jump on it and ride it to the pond."

The three jumped onto the train when it stopped at the small building. Gabby flew above them and they went around the park to the pond. When they stopped at the little station building, they leaped off the train and ran to where the humans were.

"What does that sign say, Jake?" asked Booker-T.

"It says something about a volleyball game," said Jake.

"What is volleyball?" asked Booker-T.

"I don't know," said Jake. "Lets go see what they are doing."

They walked over to where the humans were playing. They saw some kind of net between the humans and they were hitting the ball across the net. When it went across the net to the other side, they hit the ball hard.

"Why are they hitting the ball, Jake?" asked Midge. "Why don't they catch it?"

"I don't know," said Jake.

"That is a funny game," said Booker-T. "Maybe they don't want the ball and they keep hitting it away. Maybe we can run after the ball when it hits the ground."

"Can you get the ball, Jake?' asked Midge. "If they don't want the ball, maybe we can play with it."

"I can't pick up that ball," said Jake. "It is too big for me to pick up."

"I want to play," said Midge.

"Go try it," said Booker-T.

Midge saw the ball coming across the net and she ran really fast and as the ball started to come down, she leaped into the air and hit the ball with her nose.

"Hey!" shouted a human. "Hey, dogs can't play volleyball."

"How does he know we can't play?" asked Midge as she ran away from the net.

"I think we can do that," said Jake. "We can hit the ball with our noses."

"That looks like fun," laughed Booker-T. "But I can't jump like that. I will sit here and watch you two play the game."

"Do you think they will let us play?" asked Midge.

"I don't think so," said Jake. "I don't think that little human was happy when you hit the ball with your nose."

"We need another idea," sighed Booker-T.

"We need to think some more," said Midge.

"I have an idea," smiled Booker-T. "Lets go to the farm and visit the cows."

"That is a good idea," said Jake. "Come on Midge lets go to the farm."

They all agreed and started walking along the sidewalk to the farm.

"I like being in the country," said Midge.
