Lets Ride the Wagon

Jake and Lucy walked to Midge's house. Booker-T ran out his gate and caught up to them as they entered the gate at Midge's house.

Hi Guys!” smiled Booker-T. “What are you doing?”

Hi Booker-T,” greeted Lucy. “We came to ask Midge what she wants to do today.”

There she is sitting on the porch,” said Jake. “Hey there Midge.”

Hi you guys,” smiled Midge as she jumped up. “What are you doing?”

We came to see what you want to do today,” said Lucy. “I want to do something fun.”

Me too,” said Midge.

Do you have any ideas?” asked Jake.

Do you want to ride the wagon down the hill at the farm?” asked Midge.

Do you think the wagon will roll down the hill?” asked Lucy.

The tractor did,” said Booker-T.

But the wagon is smaller,” said Jake. “We can try it if you want. What do you think Lucy and Booker-T?”

Lets try,” said Lucy. “If it works it sounds like fun.”

You do know if we ride the wagon down the hill,” said Jake. “Someone will need to pull the wagon back up the hill.”

That's right,” said Midge. “One of us can ride the wagon down and the next one will need to pull the wagon up the hill and jump in the wagon to ride it back down.”

I think that will be okay,” said Lucy. “Lets try it.”

Jake took hold of the wagon handle and the four of them went through the gate on their way to the farm. As they turned into the driveway of the farm house, Gabby flew down and landed in the wagon.

Hey guys,” smiled Gabby. “What are you doing with the wagon. This is fun riding in it.”

We are going to ride the wagon down the hill to the pond,” said Booker-T.

That sounds like fun,” said Gabby. “What happens after you ride the wagon down the hill? Don't one of you have to pull the wagon back up the hill?”

Yes,” said Jake. “After the first one rides the wagon down, the next rider will have to pull the wagon back up the hill and then jump in and ride it down the hill.'

So you will get to have fun riding the wagon down the hill,” said Gabby. “And then you will get some good walking exercise pulling it back up the hill.”

Who is going first?” asked Gabby.

Maybe Lucy should go first,” said Midge. “This is her home.”

Okay,” smiled Lucy.

They walked to the top of the slope going down the hill and Lucy stood there with the wagon as the others ran down the hill to wait for her to come down the hill.

Okay, Lucy!” shouted Jake. “Jump in the wagon and ride it down the hill!”

Lucy jumped into the wagon and it didn't move.

Hey guys!” called Lucy. “The wagon isn't moving.”

Can you stick one foot out and give yourself a push?” called Jake.

My foot doesn't touch the ground,” said Lucy. “What do I do, Jake?”

Can you get out and move the wagon a little forward and jump back in,” said Jake.

I will try,” said Lucy.

She stepped out of the wagon and pushed it a little forward. Suddenly the wagon

started rolling down the hill with Lucy running behind it.

Jump in!” called Midge. “Run fast and jump in!”

Lucy ran faster and leaped at the wagon and fell on the ground behind the wagon as the wagon still was rolling down the hill.

Hurry Lucy!” called Booker-T.

I think it is too late, guys!” sighed Lucy.

The wagon continued to roll down the hill and splashed into the pond before it reached the bottom of the hill. The wagon sunk to the bottom of the pond as Jake, Midge and Booker-T stood and watched it go down.

I tried,” said Lucy as she reached them at the pond. “It got away from me.”

That's okay,” said Midge. “Jake will pull it out of the pond. Won't you Jake? Please.”

I will pull it up,” said Jake. “I think if we want to ride down the hill in the wagon, we need two of us to pull the wagon up the hill and then one push it with one in the wagon.”

We can try that,” suggested Booker-T.

Lets just go swimming,” said Lucy. “That will be more fun.”

Okay,” said Midge. “Last one in is a baby!”

They all ran for the pond and leaped into the water.
