Where Did They Go

Booker-T strolled into Midge's yard and looked around for Midge. She usually was sitting on the front porch early in the morning enjoying the cool air. But no Midge was there. He walked around the house to the back door where the doggie door was and he crawled into the kitchen. He went to the living room and jumped into the chair next to Snappy's tank. He climbed onto the back of the chair and put his front paws on the top of the tank and peaked into the tank.

Hey Snappy!” said Booker-T. “Where you hiding?”

Snappy didn't answer him.

Snappy!” said Booker-T again. “Where are you? Are you sleeping? Where is Midge?”

No response from Snappy.

What happened to Snappy,” sighed Booker-T to himself. “He's too little to get out of the tank. He must be sleeping.”

Booker-T jumped down from the chair and ran to the bedroom and looked around the room for Midge. He looked under the bed and in the closet and then behind the chair but didn't find Midge.

Midge!” called Booker-T. “Where are you? I can't find Snappy.”

No answer. He quickly went to the bathroom and looked inside and no Midge. Ran to the living room and looked behind the chairs and the sofa and no Midge. He hurried to the kitchen and found her bowl still full of her breakfast.

Midge!” whispered Booker-T. “Hello is anyone here?”

Booker-T sat in the middle of the kitchen floor and looked around. There were no sounds. Everything was quiet. He slowly stood up and walked back to the living room and leaped into the chair and put his paws on the side of the tank and pressed his nose against the glass looking around. Nothing and no sounds from inside the tank. He turned and sat down in the big chair.

Oh, my,” thought Booker-T. “Maybe Midge shouldn't have gotten on that magic tractor. It zapped her and Snappy away.”

Booker-T ran to the kitchen and hurried through the doggie door and around to the front yard gate.

I better go tell Jake that Midge and Sappy are missing,” sighed Booker-T. “It just has to be that magic tractor. She never should have gotten on it.”

He ran all the way to Jake's house and hurried through the gate and to the front porch. Jake wasn't there so he ran around to the back of the house and crawled into the house through the doggie door. He looked around the kitchen and no one was in the room. He went to the living room and looked every where for Jake. He stood in the middle of the room and

looked around. Jake was no where to be seen. He strolled to the bedroom and slowly entered the room. He looked under the bed, behind the chair and in the closet. Jake was no where to be seen.

Jake!” called out Booker-T. “Where are you?”

Oh no,” thought Booker-T. “What happened to Jake? He is gone too.”

Booker-T hurried to the kitchen and out the door. At the front gate he sat down and looked around. He looked back toward the direction of his house and then toward the direction of the farm.

Maybe I better go see Lucy,” thought Booker-T. “What if the magic tractor is going to come after me too.”

Booker-T stood up and looked around and then ran to the farm where he saw the magic tractor sitting near the house. He slowly walked past the house keeping his eyes on the tractor. When he past the house, he ran to the barn.

Lucy!” shouted Booker-T, as he neared the barn. “Hey Lucy!” Where are you?”

He saw all the cows and Daisy was standing near the door of the barn.

Hi Daisy,” greeted Booker-T.

What are you doing, Booker-T?” asked Daisy.

I was looking for Lucy,” said Booker-T. “Is she around here somewhere?”

I haven't seen Lucy,” said Daisy. “Hey Betsy!” called Daisy. “Do you know where Lucy is?”

No,” said Betsy. “I saw her last night when she came to the barn looking for our owner.”

You didn't see her this morning?” asked Booker-T.

No,” said Daisy and Betsy. “Did you stop to see Jake? Maybe she is at his house.”

No,” sighed Booker-T. “No one was there. And I went to Midge's house and no one was there.”

Oh no,” said Daisy. “Do you think it might be that magic tractor?”

You know about the magic tractor?” asked Booker-T.

Lucy told us about it,” said Betsy.

What do you think the magic tractor did?” asked Daisy.

I don't know,” said Booker-T. “I think it made Midge, Jake, Snappy and Lucy disappear. Do you think the magic tractor got upset with Midge because she started it and made it hit the rock?”

A tractor?” laughed Betsy. “A tractor isn't alive.”

But it's magic,” said Booker-T. “I think it made everyone disappear. I think I'm going to be next.”

I think you are safe,” said Daisy. “We will protect you from the tractor.”

Betsy stood behind Daisy, trying not to laugh out loud for Booker-T to hear her. In a couple minutes, Lucy, Jake and Midge ran out of the barn laughing.

What is going on?” said Booker-T.

Surprise, Booker-T,” said Daisy.

You were hiding?” asked Booker-T. “That's mean.”

It's funny,” said Jake. “You were so sure that the tractor was magic.”

How did it start moving when Midge was in the seat?” asked Booker-T.

I heard my owner say that somehow the brake came loose and the tractor rolled away,” said Lucy. “Maybe you bumped the brake when you jumped into the seat and that made the tractor start to roll.”

See Booker-T,” said Daisy. “The tractor isn't magic and you won't disappear.”

They all sat down and laughed at Booker-T. In a few minutes, he joined in the laughter.
