The Christmas Gifts

“Hey Midge,” called Booker-T as he walked up to the porch where Midge was sitting. “What are you doing this morning?”
“Waiting for you,” laughed Midge. “Lets go see Jake.”
“Did you have a good Christmas?” asked Booker-T.
“My owner gave me a new sweater for winter,” said Midge. “And a box of chew bones and a new water and food dish. What did you get this year?”
“I got a couple boxes of fish flavored treats and a new kitty litter box and I also got a new water and food dish. These new ones have my name on them,” said Booker-T.
“I wonder what Jake got this year,” said Midge.
“Did your owner get anything for Snappy?” asked Booker-T.
“She got him some new little logs and rocks for his tank,” said Midge. “She cleaned his tank and put them in it this morning and he was so happy to see the pretty area she fixed for him.”

“That's nice,” smiled Booker-T. “Sometimes I feel little sad that Gabby has no one to give him anything for Christmas.”
“My owner always sets out food for Gabby in the bird house in the back yard and I think Jake's owner does the same thing,” said Midge.
“Lets hurry and go see Jake,” said Booker-T. “It is so cold out here this morning.”
“Look Booker-T,” said Midge. “It is starting to snow.”
“I guess we finally got our snow for Christmas,” said Booker-T. “It came late this year I think.”
“We usually have snow before Christmas,” said Midge. “But this year it didn't come til now.”
The two hurried along the sidewalk going to Jake's house as the snow started falling. Midge laughed as the snow tickled her nose. “It is so cold Booker-T,” said Midge. “Lets hurry so we can get warm in Jake's house.”
The rounded the corner and hurried in through the gate and around to the back door where they pushed their way into house through his doggie door. “Jake!” called Midge. “Where are you?”
“Hey you two,” said Jake as he entered the kitchen. “What are you two doing?”
“We are cold,” said Midge.
“It is snowing out there,” said Booker-T.
“It wasn't snowing when I was out there earlier,” said Jake.
“It just started when Booker-T and I started to walk over here,” said Midge. “What did you get for Christmas Jake?”
“I got a new sweater and some boots for my feet when the snow is on the ground,” said Jake. “And she got me some chew bones I like and a new collar. What did you guys get?”
“I got a new sweater too,” smiled Midge. “And some chew bones and a new bowl for food and water.”
“I got some fish flavored snacks,” said Booker-T. “And got a new bowl for water and food too and these have my name on it.”
“Nice,” smiled Jake. “Did Snappy get anything?”
“He got some new little logs and rocks for his tank,” said Midge.
“Do you want to go to the park?” asked Booker-T. “We can make doggie angels in the snow.”
“There isn't enough snow yet,” laughed Midge.
“We can go walk in the snow,” said Jake.
“It is too cold out there this morning,” said Booker-T. “We can run over to Midge's place and say hi to Snappy.”
“That sounds like a good idea,” said Jake. “We can warm up when we get there.”
“Do you have anything we can eat?” asked Booker-T. “I'm hungry.”
“You are always hungry,” laughed Jake.
“I have some snacks in a bag we might be able to get into,” said Midge. “Lets hurry. It is too cold out here.”
The three left the house and hurried along the cold sidewalk that was starting to be covered in a white blanket. They danced around a moment as the snow feel, making footprints in the snow. “Brrr, that snow is cold on my feet,” said Booker-T as he shook one foot and then another.
“Lets get inside the house,” said Midge as they entered the yard through the gate.
“Hurry Midge,” said Jake as he pushed her from behind to hurry her through the doggie door.
“Hey Snappy!” called Jake as they entered the room.
Snappy put his nose against the glass of the tank and smiled at his friends. “Hi guys,” greeted Snappy. “What are you doing? I thought you were going to go play in the park today?”
“We were,” said Midge. “But it is too cold and it started to snow.”
“I'm glad I have this nice warm home now,” said Snappy. “I remember those snowy days at the pond in the park. It was too cold.”
“Hey Snappy,” smiled Booker-T. “Your little home looks so nice today. I see you have some new rocks in there with you.”
“Our owner put them in here this morning after she fixed us breakfast,” said Snappy. “It is really nice.”
“We came here to get warm,” said Jake. “Today is very cold.”
“I'm happy you came to see me,” said Snappy. “What did you get for Christmas?”
“I got a new sweater and some chew bones and boots for my feet,” said Jake.
“I got some fish flavored treats and a new water and food dish,” said Booker-T. “And the bowls have my name on them.”
“Midge got a really pretty pink sweater and some new bowls too,” smiled Snappy.
“I'm hungry,” said Booker-T. “Where is the bag of treats?”
“We will be right back Snappy,” laughed Midge. “Booker-T is always hungry so got to find the snacks for him.”
“Here they are!” shouted Booker-T as he leaped for the bag.
“Look out!” called Midge as the bag tipped over and the snacks spilled all over the floor. “Oh no! What will we do now?”
“We can eat them all,” said Jake. “No problem.”
“Big problem,” said Midge. “My owner just bought the bag yesterday. She will not be happy that it is almost gone already. Guess who will get into trouble when she gets home?”
“I think you will,” sighed Booker-T. “Come on Jake. Lets help her get the snacks back in the bag.”
“You hold the bag on the floor and I'll pushed the little snacks into the bag with my nose,” said Midge. “You guys can eat a little of them, but not all of them.”
“They helped her gather up all the snacks that spilled out and got them back in the bag except for the small amount they ate.
“Thanks you guys,” smiled Midge. “Lets go visit with Snappy for a while. It is warm in that room.”
"You know what the best gift all is?" asked Jake.
"Yes," smiled Midge.  "The best gift of all is our friendship and our love for each other."
"I agree," said Jake and Booker-T.
"Me too," said Snappy.  "I'm so lucky to have you all as my friend."
After visiting for a while with Snappy, they all curled up on the sofa and took a nap. Another Christmas has come and gone and the friends were all happy with their gifts..

Merry Christmas everyone from the cast of Midge and Jake.
