It is Christmas Day

Midge stood up and stretched. She jumped off the bed where her owner was still sleeping. Midge ran out into the living room and stood a moment staring at the Christmas tree that stood near the front window. Under the tree, were several small gift boxes with bright colored ribbons. She leaped into the chair beside the tank where Snappy was sitting on a log watching the snow falling outside.

"Hi Midge," said Snappy. "Did you see it snowing?"

"Hi Snappy," smiled Midge as she looked out the window. "Isn't the snow pretty falling. We have a white Christmas."

"Are you going with me to Jake's house?" asked Midge.

"Hi Midge," said Snappy as he climbed his little branch that was in his tank and pressed his nose on the glass. "What are you wearing?"

"Hi Snappy," smiled Midge. "Do you like my new sweater and my pink bow on my head?"

"I like the pink color," said Snappy. "Is it cold outside?"

"Yes," sighed Midge. "I don't like the cold weather, Snappy. I think summer is better."

"Soon the snow will come," said Snappy. "I'm happy I have a nice warm tank for my home now."

"Sometimes the snow is fun to play in," said Midge. "I just don't like being cold."

The Halloween Witch

Midge stood behind her owner as she answered the front door and standing on the porch was about 10 little humans all dressed in strange looking outfits... Midge's eyes got big when she saw the funny and scary looking humans. She stood back from the door as her owner gave each one a piece of candy. The door shut and Midge stared up at her owner and then ran to the bedroom and in a few minutes came running back to the living room with her head stuck in a blouse from the laundry basket. She stood up on her hind legs and waved her front paws at her owner begging for a treat. Her owner laughed and patted her on the head.

"Come on Midge," said the owner as she started to walk to the kitchen with Midge following behind.

"I was looking for things up there," smiled Midge.

"Are you looking for space aliens again?" laughed Booker-T.

"No," said Midge. "My owner's nephew was here yesterday and they were laying on the grass looking at the sky and she said she saw an elephant in the sky and the little boy said he saw an angel. I was trying to find that elephant and the angel."

"Hi Midge," said Snappy. "What are you doing? Did you lose something?"

"Oh," said Snappy. "Are you sure you weren't dreaming?"
"I don't think so," said Midge and she continued her search. "I think I was awake and saw it running across the floor."

Midge's owner left for work early this morning so she curled curled up on the end of the sofa after she left the house.
"What are you doing, Midge?" asked Snappy pushing his little nose against the glass of the tank.
"I'm going back to sleep," said Midge. "It is early and I don't want to wake up now."
"Where did our owner go?" asked Snappy.
"She had to go to work early this morning," said Midge. "I'm tired so am going to sleep a little more."
"Okay," said Snappy.
Midge closed her eyes and started to go to sleep when Snappy started yelling at her.
"Midge! Midge!" called Snappy. "Wake up Midge! Wake up!"

The Princess

Midge paced back and forth on the front porch and was talking to herself..
"Once upon a time," said Midge as she walked. "There lived this beautiful princess in a big brick house on a hill. She loved to sit outside on the front porch and play with friends."
Jake and Booker-T walked up and sat there watching her for a few minutes. "What are you doing, Midge?" asked Jake.
"Oh hi," smiled Midge. "I'm practicing."
"Practicing what?" asked Booker-T.
"I'm going to be in the movies," said Midge. "I'm going to be one of them actresses."
"How are you going to be in the movies?" laughed Booker-T. "You wanted to do that before and I thought you knew you couldn't act because the humans wouldn't know what you were saying. What kind of movie do you want to do?"
"About a talking Princess," said Midge. "She is so beautiful and everyone just loves her."
"Don't all Princesses talk?" asked Jake.
"Yes they do," agreed Midge. "And this Princess, no one heard speak before and now she spoke up and started talking to everyone and they all clapped and shouted and were so happy to hear her talk."
"Why didn't she talk before?" asked Booker-T.
"She did talk before," said Midge. "But no one heard her."
"Why?" asked Booker-T. "Did no one want to listen to her?"
"Where does the Princess live?' asked Jake.
"She lives in a really nice brick house," said Midge. "She loves her home and friends."
"Does she talk to her friends?" asked Jake.
"Oh yes," said Midge. "She loves talking to her friends. They like to talk to her too."
"Don't she talk to anyone else?" asked Booker-T.
"No," said Midge. "She wants to."
"Why don't she?" asked Jake.
"No one else wants to talk to her," sighed Midge. "She talks to them and they don't listen. They say things to her but they never listen to anything she says."
"They sound mean," said Booker-T. "Are they they like the wicked step sisters in Cinderella?'
"Oh no," said Midge. "They are so nice."
"Why don't they listen to this princess?" asked Jake. "I think I'm starting to figure out why."
"Why?" asked Booker-T.
"Because this princess is Midge," laughed Jake. "Right Midge?"
"Yes," smiled Midge blinking her eyes at them.
"You can't be in a movie about a princess that talks to people," said Jake. "Who will hire you?"
"I don't know yet," said Midge. "I want to be like the dogs in the movie about the life of pets."
"That is a cartoon," laughed Jake. "The people in the movie are the same as our owners. They don't understand what their pets are talking about. The animals understand each other but the humans don't understand them. But Midge, it is a cartoon."
"Don't you think that some human somewhere maybe can understand what we say?" asked Midge.
"I heard about a dog whisperer somewhere," said Booker-T. "I saw it on the news one night. The man could communicate with dogs and cats."
"Wow," said Midge. "We need to find him. Where was he Booker-T?"
"Not in our city," laughed Booker-T. "I think you will have to settle for your owner not understanding what you say."
"You will just have to be the Princess that no one can talk with.", said Jake. "But that's okay. We all can talk to you."
"I know," sighed Midge. "Why can't animals talk to humans so they can understand what we say?"
"I don't know," said Jake. "I guess God didn't make us that way."
"But why not?" asked Midge. "I want to talk to my owner sometimes."
"Me too," said Booker-T. "Maybe some day in the future, they will figure out how they can understand each other."
"That would be nice," said Midge. "We have our own language that the humans hear. When I talk to you guys, my owner hears me barking."
"And humans hear my talking as a meow," said Booker-T.
"Isn't that funny how that works?" laughed Jake. "We hear each other talking just like the humans talk but the humans hear us as barking and meowing."
"They do pretty good at knowing what we want," said Midge. "I think it is little sad that we know what they are saying but they don't know what we are saying to them."
"It's sad," agreed Jake. "But I guess it will be okay."
"I guess I will just have to bark when I want to go outside," said Midge.
"But you don't have to bark to go outside," laughed Jake. "Just go out your doggie door."
"You are silly," laughed Booker-T.
"I guess my movie will never be," said Midge.
"You can tell us a story sometimes," said Booker-T. "You are a good story teller."
"I will think up a good story to tell you," smiled Midge.
"Ok," said Jake. "Can we go to the park now and swim in the pond?"
"Lets go," said Booker-T.
"The three ran out the gate and along the sidewalk to the park to swim.

"We are almost there," said Jake. "You can rest near the pond."
They hurried into the park and ran to the pond.
"I'll be right back," said Gabby. "I'm going to fly to the other end of the park and see what is going on over there."
"Okay," said Jake as he walked toward the edge of the pond. "We are going swimming in the pond."
"Come on Susie," said Midge. "Lets go swimming."

In a few minutes she was back in the living room where she walked around the coffee table and then leaped into the chair next to Snappy's tank.
"What are you doing Midge?" asked Snappy. "You have been pacing back and forth all morning."
"I lost my little doll," said Midge.
"You have a doll?" asked Snappy. "I thought little human girls had dolls."

The Wonder Dog

Jake strolled along the sidewalk on his way to Midge's house. Around his neck he was wearing a flowing red cape and he walked with his head held high. "I'm a super hero," sang Jake. "I'm a super hero from the planet Mars. I fight the bad guys and they call me the Wonder Dog." Suddenly he fell into a hole and was standing on the bottom looking up.
"Ouch!" said Jake as he looked around. "Oh no. How do i get out of here now?"
Jake jumped up and down and stated calling for help. "Someone help!" called Jake. "Is anyone up there?"
He called and called and no one answered or came to help. He sat down and looked around the hole for a way out. In a few minutes a small squirrel looked down into the hole.
"Hey!" said the squirrel. "What are you doing down there?"

Ride The Wagon

Midge crawled through the doggie door into the back yard and ran to the wagon and picked up the handle. She pulled it across the back yard and around the corner on her way to the front yard. She pulled it through the front gate and onto the sidewalk going to Booker-T's house. She tried to pull the wagon through the gate into Booker-T's front yard. The rear wheel got caught on the fence post. She pulled hard, but the wheel was stuck.
"Hey Midge!" called Booker-T as he walked to the gate. "What are you trying to do?"
"My wagon wheel is stuck on the fence post," sighed Midge.
"What are you going to do with the wagon?" asked Booker-T.

Midge the Singer?

"Hey, hey, hey," sang Midge as she strolled out the front yard gate and along the sidewalk to Booker-T's house on her way to Jake's house. "Hey, hey, hey, strolling along. Strolling along to Booker-T's house."
Booker-T came walking around the house from the back yard. "Hi Midge," said Booker-T as Midge came strolling through the gate singing her song. "What are you doing?"
"I'm singing and strolling," sang Midge.
"Why are you singing?" asked Booker-T. "And what are you singing?"
"I'm just making it up as I stroll along," smiled Midge. "Do you like my song?"
"Hmmm," said Booker-T. "I don't know. Sing and let me hear it all."
"I don't know it all yet," said Midge. "Hey, hey, hey. I'm strolling along the sidewalk. The sky is blue and the sun is shining bright and makes me feel happy. Going to get Booker-T and Jake and have fun at the park today."

The Cat Show

Jake, Midge and Booker-T hurried along the sidewalk to the gym parking lot where the people had bleachers, a ring and a large circus sized tent set up for the cat show. People were entering the tent carrying cat carriers. At the back of the tent, they could see tables set up where the owners set the carriers on while they tended to their cats. Some had their cats out of the carriers and were holding them as they brushed their fir. There was a pretty fluffy white cat with a pink bow on her head that Booker-T noticed.
“She is pretty,” smiled Booker-T as he started to walk to the back of the tent.
“Where are you going?” asked Midge.

Did You Know?

Midge walked to Booker-T's house singing, “Skip, skip skip to my Lou.”
She entered the yard through the front gate and skipped across the yard to the back door still singing, “Skip, skip, skip to my Lou.”
She poked her head in through the doggie door. “Booker-T!” called Midge. “Hey, Booker-T! Where are you ? I'm coming in now.”
Booker-T entered the kitchen. “Hi Midge,” said Booker-T. “Come on in. What are you doing?”
“Did you hear the news?” asked Midge.
“Hear what?” asked Booker-T.
“It was on the TV last night,” said Midge. “I heard it.”

The Strange House

Midge, Jake and Booker-T walked along the sidewalk on their way to the little zoo transfer building where the petting zoo is.
"Jake," said Midge as she suddenly stopped and stood looking across the street.
"Are you okay, Midge?" asked Jake.
"No," said Midge. "Why is that house in the tree?"
"I think it is called a tree house," said Jake.
"But why is it in the tree?" asked Midge.

=======================================================================

Midge and Booker-T walked along the sidewalk on their way to Jake's house. They had planned on going to the zoo to visit Pinky and the other little animals at the petting zoo. They hurried through the gate into the front yard and found Jake sleeping in the porch swing.
"Hey Jake!" said Midge.
"Wake up," said Booker-T.
"Hi guys," said Jake as he stretched and sat up on the swing.
"You were sleeping," said Midge.
"I think I was dreaming," said Jake.
"Was it a good dream?" asked Midge.

Kiss the Frog

Jake and Booker-T entered the gate at Midge's front yard but Midge wasn't on the porch where she usually is in the mornings.
"Maybe she is in the back yard, Jake," suggested Booker-T. "Lets go to the back and see if she is there."
They walked around the house to the back yard. There, they found Midge sitting at the edge of the fountain.
"What are you doing?" asked Jake.
"Why are you just sitting there?" asked Booker-T. "Are you okay?"

The Buried Treasure

Midge was sitting on the front porch with a large piece of paper laying on the porch in front of her. She was staring at the paper work when Jake and Booker-T came through the gate into the yard.
"He's Midge," said Jake. "What are you doing?"
"I found this paper in the back yard," said Midge. "It was laying against the fence. I think the wind blew it into the yard."
"What is it for?" asked Booker-T.
"I don't know" said Midge. "What does it say at the top of the paper, Jake?"

Magic Tricks

Midge, Booker-T and Gabby went to Jake's house. Gabby landed on Jake's head.
"Hey Jake!" called Midge. "Wake up!"
"Hey you guys," said Jake. "What are you doing?"
"We are going to see the magic show at the park," said Midge.
"What magic show?" asked Jake.
"There is going to be a party at the park and a magician is going to be there at the party to do tricks," said Gabby.
"Come on Jake," said Booker-T. "Lets go so we can see the magic. I like magic."
"Okay," said Jake. "I like magic tricks too. My owner watched one of those magic guys on TV one night. He was really good doing the tricks. I wonder how they do it."
The three hurried through the gate with Gabby following above. They ran along the sidewalk and stopped at the corner to look for cars before quickly running across the street into the park.
"Where are they having the magic show?' asked Midge.
"I think it is in the picnic area near the pond," said Gabby. "They built a stage over there for bands, and magic shows and other things."
They hurried across the park and when they were close to the pond, they saw many people sitting at picnic tables and some sitting on blankets that were spread on the ground. They walked closer so they could see the man dressed in a black suit with a blue shirt on the stage. In one hand he held a black hat and a black shiny stick in the other. Near the man stood two little boys.
"Do you like bunnies? asked the man.
The two boys nodded their heads.
"Can you say, Yes?" laughed the man. "The audience can't hear your head rattle."
The people laughed and clapped.
"Yes," said the two boys.
The man showed the boys the hat and let them look inside. "Do you see any bunnies inside the hat?" asked the magician.
"No," said one of the boys.
"The man waved the shiny black stick over the top of the hat. "Come to me little fuzzy bunny," said the magician. "Now look inside."
The boy's looked inside and one boy got excited. "It's a white bunny!" said the young boy.
The man waved the black shiny stick over the hat again and out came another white bunny.
"Wow!" said Midge. "How did he do that?"
"I don't know," said Jake. "Maybe that is a magic hat."
"You know Santa carries a magic bag that is big and red," said Booker-T. "Maybe his hat is like Santa's bag. Whatever he wants comes out."
"Do you think he is Santa pretending to be a Magician," suggested Midge.
"I don't think so," said Jake. "I think Santa and the magic man are two different people. Santa is bigger than that man is."
"Hey Jake, look!" exclaimed Booker-T. "All those birds came out of his hat. How did he get all those birds in there?"
Gabby flew over the man and landed on his head. The humans who were watching started laughing. Gabby jumped off his head and landed on the man's hand and looked inside the hat.
"Hey Jake!" called Gabby as he flew into the air. "There isn't anything in the hat."
"Where did all the birds come from?" asked Midge.
"I don't know," said Jake. "They suddenly appeared. I think it is magic. That's why they call him a magic man."
"I like horses,"  said Midge. "Do you think he can make a horse come out of the hat?"
"I think a horse is too big for the hat Midge," laughed Jake.
"I saw a magic man on TV make an elephant disappear," said Booker-T.
"What is he going to do with that newspaper?" asked Midge.
"I don't know," said Jake. "Watch and see."
The man rolled up the newspaper to look like a funnel and poured a pitcher of water into it. Nothing came out of the bottom of the funnel.
"Where did the water go?" asked Booker-T.
"Maybe it soaked up into the paper," suggested Jake.
"The paper don't look wet," said Midge.
The man then unrolled the paper and the water was gone. People in the audience said "Wow."
"The water is all gone, Jake," said Booker-T.
"Must be magic," said Midge.
They all laughed at Midge's response to the disappearing water.
"I like magic," laughed Midge.
The man began to play a little flute. on the table in front of him sat a brown basket.
"What is he doing now?" asked Booker-T.
"I saw this one on TV," said Jake. "Watch him. It is really cool."
After about five minutes of playing the flute, the lid to the basket began to move. Slowly it started to rise up from the basket.
"Look Jake!" said Midge. "The basket lid is moving."
In a few minutes, a brown rope started to rise up out of the basket. The man played the flute some more and the rope began moving higher up like a snake coming out of the basket.
The crowd of people began clapping.
"He is good," smiled Gabby. "I like the birds that came out of the hat. They were pretty white doves."
"I like his tricks," said Midge.
"Me too," said Jake. "But I think that was the end of his show."
"Do you want to go ride the train before we go home?" asked Booker-T
They all agreed and ran to the train station near the picnic area so they could get on the park train.
