Midge was sitting on the front porch watching the rain falling on the side walk in front of the porch. Booker-T came running through the gate and ran onto the porch and sat down.
“It's raining,” said Booker-T.
“I know it,” said Midge. “I'm sitting here watching the rain hit the sidewalk.”
“Are we going to walk in the rain and go to Jake's house?” asked Booker-T.
“I think he and Lucy are coming here,” said Midge as she looked up the street to see if they were coming. “I wish I was a human.”
Midge was sitting on the porch enjoying the warm weather. The flowers were blooming and air was filled with the sweet smell of the roses along the house. Booker-T entered the yard and sat down on the porch with Midge.
“What are you doing?” asked Booker-T.
“I'm just sitting here,” said Midge.
“Why?” asked Booker-T.
“I just love the warm weather,” said Midge. “Don't you like it when it is warm?”
“I do too,” agreed Booker-T. "I think it is better then the cold. My owner always wants me to wear socks on my feet to keep them warm. I don't like socks on my feet.”
“I like the socks okay,” said Midge. “But they make your feet feel colder when they get wet.”
“I guess they do,” said Booker-T. “My feet feel funny with them on.”
“Did you see the pretty flowers in the back yard?” asked Midge. “Come on and I will show you.”
Booker-T followed Midge to the back yard where they stood near the tree looking at all the new flowers her owner planted around the big shade tree.
“Hey you!” said a voice.
Midge stood there looking around the yard and didn't see anyone.
“Did you hear that?” asked Midge.
“I heard the voice,” said Booker-T. “But I don't see anyone, do you?”
“No,” said Midge, shaking her head. “Do you think there are ghosts in the back yard?”
“I don't know,” said Booker-T. "Maybe you do have a ghost in your back yard."
Booker-T walked next door to Midge's house and hurried around to the back of the house and crawled through the doggie door.
“Hey Midge!” called Booker-T as he entered the living room and leaped into the chair next to Snappy's tank. “Where are you? Hi Snappy.”
“Hey there Booker-T. “What are you doing?”
“I came to see Midge and you too,” smiled Booker-T. “What are you doing?”
“I was watching the sun come up and the pretty orange colors in the sky,” said Snappy.
“It was pretty,” said Booker-T.
“Did your owner have Easter with you and Midge last Sunday?” asked Booker-T.
“Do we have to take a present to the birthday party?” asked Midge.
“I don't think so,” said Jake. “We can't buy a present.”
“I guess we can't,” said Midge. “Do you think his owner will get him a present? My owner only gives me presents on Christmas.”
“Mine too,” said Lucy.
“I get some presents from my owner sometimes with no reason,” said Booker-T. “But I never had a birthday party.”
