Visiting the Circus Tents

The three friends were enjoying their nap when they heard a lot of noise coming from beyond the trees where the bicycle path was. They each sat up and looked toward the path.
“Wow,” said Booker-T. “Look at the pretty horses.”
Along the path came two men leading four beautiful white horses.
“Those are the horses from the circus,” said Jake.
“They sure are pretty,” said Midge. “I love to see them when they have all their fancy stuff on when they are doing their acts in the big tent.”

Gone To See The Animals

“Hey Midge!” called Jake as he and Booker-T strolled up the steps to the porch. “What are you doing this morning?”
“I was napping,” said Midge.
“Napping?” asked Booker-T. “Why are you napping? Didn't you just wake up from sleeping the night?”
“Yes,” said Midge. “But I was so excited about the circus we saw yesterday that I didn't go to sleep til late.”
“Why?” asked Jake.
“I lay there thinking about all the acts and the exciting things going on,” said Midge. “And I think I ate too much stuff. I had a tummy ache last night after I laid down.”
“Me too,” said Booker-T. “I never ate so much stuff at one time before.”

The Big Circus Show Begins

“Jake! Jake!” yelled Midge as she raced into the yard and up the steps to the front porch at Jake's house. “Hey, where are you?”

Midge stood on the porch in front of the door and looked around and did not see Jake. She raced down the steps and around the corner of the house on her way to the back yard. As she hurried around the corner, she ran right into Jake who was coming the other direction.

“Hey Midge!” screamed Jake. “Slow down! We have plenty of time before the circus starts.”

“We still have to go get Booker-T,” said Midge.

Circus is in Town

“Hey Jake!” called Midge as she ran around the corner and through the gate at Jake's house. “Where are you?”

“What is all the excitement?” asked Jake sitting up. “You are sure in a hurry this morning.”

“The circus is here!” smiled Midge. “And I'm not in trouble with the mistress so came running to tell you.”

“Great,” said Jake. “I'm glad you aren't in trouble. Booker-T wanted to see the circus too so lets go find him and take him to the park where they are setting up the tents.”

Midge and Jake Make Plans

Hey Gabby,” said Midge as she sat up in the porch swing. “What are you doing? I thought you didn't want to nap.”

“Well, you all looked like you were enjoying your nap and I got sleepy just watching you so went to sleep too,” said Gabby. “I had a nice nap waiting for you to wake up.”

“Did you see the poster at the store for the circus?” asked Jake.

“I saw it,” said Gabby. “I do remember being there with you last year. I just didn't remember what the thing was called.”

“Okay,” said Booker-T. “Are we going to check it out when it gets here? I never saw one.”

Gabby's Big News

“Jake,” said Midge. “We left the park and forgot to ask Gabby what his exciting news was.”

“If he has exciting news, he will be here soon,” said Jake. “You know Gabby.”

“I guess you are right,” said Midge as she laid down her head and closed her eyes.

The three friends lay sleeping on the front porch swing when Gabby came swooping in and landed on the porch railing.

“Hey you guys! Wake up!” shouted Gabby. “You left the park and didn't even ask me what my exciting news was.”

The lost Bow

Jake, Midge and Booker-T ran into the park and hurried to the pond where they found Snappy sitting on a big rock near the edge of the pond.

“Hey there Snappy,” said Midge. “What are you doing?”

“I am relaxing here on the rock enjoying the cool morning breeze,” smiled Snappy. “What are you doing this morning?”

“We came to play with you in the water,” said Jake.

“Oh, and Midge, you have pretty bows on your head,” said Snappy. “You look pretty with them. You don't want to get them wet.”

“Hey Midge!” called Booker-T. “Wow, you are looking really nice this morning with your pretty pink bows.”

“Hi Booker-T and hi Jake,” said Midge as she pranced around the front porch showing off her pretty pink bows. “You like them?”

“They are nice,” said Jake. “You look really pretty. Can you play in the park this morning with your pink bows on?”

Midge is not at Home

“Hello Midge!” called Booker-T as he hurried up the steps to her front porch. “Where are you?”

Midge didn't answer and Booker-T banged on the door with his paw and called again,”Midge! Where are you?”

Still there wasn't an answer from Midge. He leaped off the porch and ran around to the back yard and looked all around and saw no one. He ran to the doggie door and pushed on it to look inside, but the door wouldn't open. He pushed harder but still the door wouldn't open. He jumped onto the box that sat beneath the back window and put his little face against the glass and tried to see inside. The curtains were closed and he could not see anything.

Being Safe

“Hey Jake!” called Booker-T as he hurried up the sidewalk to the front porch. “Are you there?”

Jake sat up and saw Booker-T climbing the steps. “I'm here Booker-T. You are awake early today.”

“Yes, lot earlier than usual,” said Booker-T.

“What is going on that you are up so early?” asked Jake. “Midge hasn't even gotten here yet.”

“Hey guys!” said Midge. “Look over there. All the dogs are going into the tent for the dog show.”

“Wow, there are a lot of dogs!” said Susie. “Are you sure you want to go over there Booker-T?”

“Sure,” said Booker-T. “We will be okay. The owners of the dogs won't let them run loose so we are okay.”

“Are you positive we will be okay?” asked Susie.

Midge and The Dog Show

“Hi Midge,” said Jake as he looked up to see her walking up the sidewalk to the porch.

“Hey Jake!” called Midge as she started up the steps to the porch. “What are you doing?”

“Not a thing,” answered Jake. “Just finished breakfast and was laying here in the cool shade waiting for you and Booker-T.”

“What do you want to do today?” asked Midge. “I know there is a big dog show this afternoon at the park.”

“Do you want to check it out?” asked Jake. “I'm sure Booker-T won't mind too much if we go see what kind of dogs are there.”

Booker-T is Late

“Hello Jake!” called Midge as she saundered through the gate and up the sidewalk to the porch. “What are you doing?”

“Hi Midge,” answered Jake as he sat up from his morning nap. “I was just taking a nice nap in the shade here and enjoying the cool breeze blowing.”

“A nap?” asked Midge. “Why do you need a nap? You just woke up from the night about an hour ago.”

“How do you know I woke up an hour ago?” asked Jake. “Maybe I was up earlier than that.”

Jake Asks about the Teeth Cleaning

Midge strolled up the sidewalk to the front porch where Jake was sitting on the chair.  She slowly walked up the steps and sat down looking up at Jake.

“Are you okay Midge?” asked Jake.

   “I think so,” said Midge.

“You look okay,” said Jake,  “But you do look sad.  What is wrong?  Did the teeth cleaning hurt you?”

“No, not really,” said Midge.  “Oh Jake, It was terrible.”

“What happened, Midge?” asked Jake as he jumped out of the chair and came to sit beside Midge.

“I’m laying down up here on the porch,” said Midge.  “What are you doing this morning?”

“Why are you lying down?” asked Jake.

“Because I want to,” said Midge.  “Am I not supposed to lay down?”

“Sure,” said Jake.  “Laying down is good, but we are supposed to meet Booker-T and Susie at the park.  Did you forget?”

What is for Breakfast

“Hello Jake,” called Midge as she strolled along the sidewalk.  “What are you doing?”

“I’m eating my breakfast,” answered Jake.  “What are you doing this morning?”

“I want to go play in the park,” said Midge.  “What are you eating for breakfast?”

“She gave me some good beef chunks with this nice gravy,” said Jake.  “Did you eat your breakfast Midge?”

“I had chicken chunks but didn’t have any gravy on mine,” said Midge.  “My mistress gives me gravy on mine at night.  Do you eat the dry food at night?”

Midge Loves the Rain

“Hello Jake!” called Midge as she hurried up the walkway to the front porch.  “Are you sleeping?”

“Not anymore,” said Jake as he sat up.  “Why are you out there in the rain?”

“The rain is nice, Jake,” said Midge.  “I love to walk in the rain when it is warm outside.”

“Come on up here and dry off, Midge,” said Jake.  “This is nice sleeping weather.”

Midge jumped onto the porch and shook the water off her.  “It’s nice to go walking in the rain too.”

“Hey Midge,” called Jake from the front porch.  “What are you singing?”

Midge skipped through the gate of the fence and hurried up the walkway to the porch. “I’m just singing. Nothing special.”

“Why are you singing?”  asked Jake.  “You don’t usually like to sing.”

“I know,” said Midge.  “But today, I’m happy happy happy.”

“Okay,” said Jake.  “Why are you so happy today?”

Where is Midge?

“Midge!” called Jake as he and Booker-T walked up the sidewalk to Midge’s house.  “Midge!  Where are you?”

“Maybe she is in the back Jake,” Said Booker-T as they turned to go back down the steps.

“Midge!” called Jake as they walked around the house to the back.

When they got to the back yard, they didn’t see Midge there either.

Hello all my Fans

“Hello everyone.  I’m Midge.  I’m a little black and white cocker spaniel.   I live with my mistress in a beige brick home.  Do you have pets at home?  Pets are nice to have. We love our humans who take care of us unconditionally.  It’s nice to have a good home with loving humans.  I love my mistress. She takes good care of me.  She has a little nephew who comes to visit us sometimes and he likes to run and play when he isn’t getting into mischief and causing me problems.   I have heard my mistress tell people that he is a typical little boy.

Midge and the Baby Birds

“Hey Jake!” screamed Midge as she hurried up the sidewalk to the porch. “Where are you Jake?”

“Midge!” shouted Jake as he sat up bumping his head on the bottom of the swing. “I am right here, where you see me every day at this time.”

“I know it,” said Midge.  “That is your favorite spot.”

“If you know it,” said Jake.  “Why do you always ask me where I am?”

“I don’t know,” said Midge.  “I guess because when I start walking to the porch, I can’t see you behind that table.”

“Wait til you step up onto the porch before you ask me,” said Jake. “You always scream and I jump up and hit my head every time.”

Jake Sleeps Soundly

Midge comes sauntering up the sidewalk to the porch where Jake is sleeping. "Jake!" screams Midge.
"Hey! You scared me!" said Jake.  "What are you doing?"
"I couldn't resist yelling your name," said Midge.  "You didn't hear me walk up on the porch.  Great watch dog you are."
"Ha ha ha," said Jake.  "I would have heard a person walking up the steps."
"How do you know?" asked Midge.
"I always here the mailman when he walks up," said Jake.  "I'm awake before he gets on the porch."
"But you don't wake up when a dog walks up?" asked Midge.
"I guess not," said Jake.  "I was dreaming and didn't hear you coming up the steps."
