A Picnic and Concert

The three friends walked along the sidewalk on their way to the park with their friend Gabby flying above them. As they crossed the street and entered the park, Booker-T said “Hey look over there. What are they doing?”
They stopped and looked at what Booker-T was pointing at.
“Lets go see,” said Midge.
“Looks like they are putting up tents for something,” said Jake.
“Why?” asked Booker-T as they started walking to the area.
When they neared where the men were setting up the tents, Jake saw a large sign near a tree facing the road.
“What does it say, Jake?” asked Booker-T.

Midge and a Trip

Jake hurried along the sidewalk on his way to Midge's house. As he started to pass the small cafe along the way, he stopped to smell the hamburgers cooking on the grill inside.
Oh,” thought Jake. “They sure do smell good. I really wish I had one now.”
After a few minutes, he started walking to Midge's house again. As he neared the fence gate where Booker-T lives, he slowed down and stood a few minutes looking around for Booker-T.
“Hey Jake!” called Booker-T as he came around the house from the back yard.
“Hey Booker-T,” greeted Jake. “Lets go see hat Midge is doing.”
“I'm coming,” said Booker-T as he joined Jake outside the gate. “I saw you up the street at the cafe. Were you begging for food?”

Midge and Her Buzzing Ear

Midge crawled outside through the doggie door and walked to the front of the house. She was sitting on the porch when something was buzzing her ear.
“Buzzz buzzz,” she heard in her ear. She shook her head and the buzzing stopped for a minute or two. Then the buzzing started again. She shook her head again and danced around the yard trying to get the buzzing to stop.
Booker-T entered the gate to the yard and stood a moment staring at Midge dancing around like a nut. “Hey Midge!” said Booker-T. “Are you all right?”
“Booker-T,” said Midge. “I keep hearing this buzzing in my ear and I can't make it stop.”
“Is it still doing it?” asked Booker-T looking a bit puzzled.

The Animal with Big Teeth

Jake and Midge hurried inside the zoo building with Booker-T running behind them..
“Come on Booker-T,” said Midge. “What are you doing?”
“I was looking at the zoo train across the street,” said Booker-T. “It sure was fun ridding the train to the big zoo.”
“But we almost had to walk all the way home,” said Jake. “That would have been bad. Our little legs would have really been tired.”
“Lets go see what animals are inside today,” said Midge.
They stood in the middle of the room and look around at the five cages that were inside.
“Look Jake,” said Booker-T. “There is another elephant and three Meecats, a big ape, a zebra and what is that in the corner?”

Humans Sure Are Funny

“Hey Jake!” called Midge as she and Booker-T entered the gate at Jake's house. “Where are you? I don't see you on the front porch!”
“Isn't he suppose to go to the vet's office today for his shots?” asked Booker-T.
“I don't remember for sure,” said Midge. “I always thought he went to the vet about the same time I do.”
“When do you go?” asked Booker-T.
“I think I go in about two weeks,” said Midge. “My owner always puts it on the calendar with a big letter V on the date.”
“Let's go around to the back of the house and peak in through the doggie door,” suggested Booker-T. “Maybe he was sleeping late.”
“Jake don't usually sleep late,” said Midge. “I hope he isn't sick.”
Booker-T poked his head into the house and looked around. “Come on Midge lets go see if he is in here.”

“We came to see you, don't you know,” said Midge.
“Ha ha,” laughed Jake. “Now I know because I see you standing there.”
“We came so Midge can tell us some more stories from the land of the Rhyme where dishes and spoons walk and cats play fiddles,” said Booker-T.
“Don't forget that cow that jumped over the moon,” said Jake. “She is one amazing cow.”

“Hi Booker-T,” said Jake. “Come on, let's go see Midge.”
The two strolled over to Midge's house and entered the gate. They found Midge pacing back and forth in front of the house, mumbling to herself.
“Hey Midge,” said Jake. “What are you doing?”
Midge paced back and forth, not noticing Jake and Booker-T.
“Hey Midge!” said Booker-T. “Earth to Midge!”
Jake stepped in front of the pacing Midge. “Slow down,” said Jake.
“Oh, hi Jake,” said Midge.
“What planet are you on?” asked Booker-T.
“I'm on the same one you are,” said Midge.
“You didn't even hear us come in and say hi,” said Jake. “Where are you?”

“Wow,” said Booker-T. “He is a big bird.”
“Lets go see,” said Jake.
“He's a pretty bird,” said Midge. “I like his brown spots.”
They stood at the cage looking at the bird. He was sitting on the tree limb in the cage. The sign on the bars says his name is Buzzy.
“Hello Buzzy,” said Midge.
“Who are you?” asked Buzzy. “Why are you outside the cage?”

A Message from Outer Space?

Jake, Midge and Booker-T strolled along the sidewalk on their way to the little zoo to check out the animals that might be there this time. Around the corner, Midge noticed something strange on the sidewalk.
“What is that Jake?” asked Midge. “Is it a strange message?”
“Maybe a strange message from outer space,” suggested Booker-T.
“I don't know,” said Jake. “I never saw it before.”
“Me either,” agreed Midge. “What do all the squares mean?”
“I don't know,” said Jake. “Each square has a number.”
“Why?” asked Booker-T.
“I don't know,” said Jake.

“Hello,” said Midge to the elephant.
“Are you talking to me?” asked the elephant.
“Yes,” said Midge. “What is your name?”
“I'm Omar the Great,” said the elephant lifting his trunk into the air.
“You are really big,” said Midge.

Jumping Rope

“Midge!” called Booker-T. “Where are you?”

“I wanted to say hi to Snappy,” said Booker-T.
“Sure,” smiled Midge. “Come on, lets go see him.”
“Hey Snappy!” called Booker-T as he entered the living room.
Snappy looked up and crawled across his little log and pressed his nose to the side of the tank. “Hi Booker-T.” said Snappy. “What are you doing this morning?”

Pictures

Booker-T and Midge walked along the sidewalk going to Jake's house. As they came down the street, they saw many people in the yard across the street. They were laughing and kids were running and jumping around. Some were standing near a big tree with pretty flowers around it. They entered the yard at Jake's house and found him laying on the swing.
“Hey Jake,” called Midge as she walked to the porch. “Are they having a party over there?”
“Hi Midge,” smiled Jake. “Yes. They have been there since yesterday. They were out there early this morning again.”
“What are they doing?” asked Booker-T. “Why are they pointing that thing at those near the tree? Are they going to shoot them?”

“Lets go see if he wants to go to the zoo with us,” said Jake.
“Okay,” said Midge as they walked out the gate.
Jake and Midge walked to Booker-T's house. In the front yard they saw a baby buggy but the little girl wasn't around. They walked into the yard.

“Hey Jake,” said Midge. “Look, the balloons are back. I want to ride in one.”
“You can't ride in one,” said Booker-T. “The chased us away last time we were there.”
“I really want to try, okay,” said Midge. “I can sneak into one of the baskets.”
“Early in the morning they will be setting it all up for the day,” said Midge. “I can try it at that time.”
“Jake,” said Booker-T. “Midge is going to keep on so time to give it up and let her try.”
“I know,” said Jake. “She will try anything at least once.”
“She didn't try the last time they were here because they saw me jump into the basket and took me out of it,” said Booker-T. “So this will be her one time.”

“I'm not going to New Orleans,” said Midge.
“You just said you were going to New Orleans, didn't you?” asked Booker-T.
“When?” asked Midge.
“I just heard you say you were going,” said Booker-T. “I don't want you to go.”
“I was singing a song,” said Midge.
“About walking to New Orleans?” asked Booker-T.

“Hi Booker-T,” smiled Jake. “Do you know if Midge came home yet?”

Missing Midge

Jake and Booker-T were sitting in Booker-T's front yard waiting to see if Midge comes home.
“I don't think she is come back home today,” sighed Booker-T.
“It sure don't look like she will be here today,” agreed Jake. “Maybe I better go home before my owner gets home from work. I will come back in the morning.”
“Okay Jake,” said Booker-T.
Booker-T walked to the gate with Jake and watched him walk quickly up the sidewalk going home. He turned the corner when Booker-T saw a car come around the other corner that looked like it belonged to the owner of Midge. He stood at the gate of the yard and watched as the car came along the road. It passed on by and Booker-T had a sad look on his face when he realized it wasn't Midge.
I wonder where you are my friend,” thought Booker-T as he turned to walk back to the front porch.
Jake and I are missing you. You have never been gone this long before.”

“I don't remember,” said Midge. “He didn't say anything about it.”
“Wait and I will go peek in the house through the doggie door,” said Booker-T as he ran for the back yard.
Midge sat down on the porch and waited for Booker-T to come back to the front of the house. In a few minutes, he came running around the house and sat down next to Midge.
“He was sleeping,” laughed Booker-T.
“Still sleeping,” said Midge. “Jake is still sleeping. He never sleeps late.”

“I'm going to ride it,” said Midge.
“Ride it where?” asked Booker-T. “Are you going to go down the hill at the park?”
“No,” said Midge. “We are going to the skateboard park and I want to ride the wagon down the ramp.”
“Oh no,” said Booker-T shaking his head. “I don't think Jake will want you to do that.”
“It will be fun,” said Midge.
“How are you going to steer it down that ramp?” asked Booker-T. “It's not safe.”

“What are you doing?” asked Booker-T.
“I was sleeping,” said Jake as he sat up in the swing.
“It's time to get up and lets go have some fun,” smiled Booker-T.
“You sleep all the time,” said Midge. “I want to go to the zoo building to see the animals.”
“I woke up early this morning,” said Jake. “So I laid down for little nap after my owner went to work.”
“Jake,” said Midge. “Do they have doggie dentists?”

“Jake!” said Midge. “There is the spaceship!”
Jake looked up and saw the ship flying above them. “Where is it going?” asked Booker-T.
“I don't know,” said Jake.
“Do you think we can follow it?” asked Midge.
“I think it might be hard to follow it,” said Jake. “It is moving fast across the sky.”
“It looks like it is just flying around and around up there,” said Booker-T. “Do you think it is following us?”
“Why would it follow us?” asked Midge. “We are just three little animals.”

“I'm right here,” said Booker-T as he came running around the corner of the house from the back yard. “Why are you so excited? Are you okay?”
“It's the aliens Booker-T,” said Midge pacing back and forth. “They really are here this time.”
“Where are they?” asked Booker-T. “What did you see this time. The first time you thought the aliens landed, it was hot air balloons in the park.”
“I know, I know,” said Midge. “But this time they are here. They are really here.”

The Bug with Many Legs

Jake started to go through the gate and stopped when he saw Midge jumping around on the porch like she was dancing a jig. He sat down and watched her for a few minutes. Booker-T walked up and joined him
“What are you watching Jake?” said Booker-T as he sat down beside him.
“What is Midge doing?” asked Jake. “Is she trying to dance again?”
“I don't know,” said Booker-T. “I just got here. Maybe she is wanting to try and enter the dance contest that is at the gym again.”
“Does she know the contest is there again?” asked Jake.
“I don't know,” said Booker-T as he started to stand and walk toward the front porch. “Let's go ask her.”
“Hey Midge!” called Jake as he and Booker-T came to the porch. “What are you doing?”
“I was chasing a bug,” said Midge.
“You look like you were dancing around,” said Booker-T.
“Where is the bug?” asked Jake.
“I lost it,” said Midge. “It was a really strange looking bug. I never saw one before. It ran up to my legs and I started jumping around so it wouldn't get on me. Do you see it anywhere?”
Jake and Booker-T looked around the porch and the sidewalk in front but no strange bug.
“I don't see anything,” said Jake. “Did you see where it went?”
“No,” sighed Midge. “I was just trying to stay out of it's way.”
“Why didn't you step on it?” asked Booker-T.
“I tried,” said Midge. “But it was really fast.”
“What did it long like?” asked Booker-T.
“It was black and had many legs,” said Midge trying to remember how it looked. “Maybe it ran away and won't come back.”
“Maybe,” said Booker-T.
“What kind of bug has a lot of legs?” asked Midge.
“I think a centipede has many legs,” said Jake. “Have you ever seen a centipede before?”
“No,” said Midge.
“Maybe it was a centipede,” suggested Booker-T.
“Whatever it was,” said Midge. “it was very fast.”
“Maybe it is gone now,” said Jake. “Do you want to go to see the animals at the zoo again?”
“I want to go to the gym,” said Midge.
“Why?” asked Jake.
“We can't go into the gym,” said Booker-T. “They chased us away the last time we were there when you wanted to dance up on the stage.”
“I think they are having another dance contest,” smiled Midge.
“You can't enter it,” said Jake.
“Sure I can,” said Midge. “I'm going to sneak in and they will never know it til I am up on the stage dancing.”
“They are always at the door,” said Jake. “You won't get past them.”
“Sure I will,” said Midge. “With your help I will get past them.”
“Oh,” said Booker-T. “This isn't going to be good.”
“Hey, look!” screamed Midge. “That's the bug. Step on it Jake!”
Jake hurried across the porch where the bug was moving across the porch. When he got to the bug and raised his foot to stomp on it, he sat down and started to laugh.
“What is going on?” asked Midge. “Why are you laughing so hard?”
“Jake, what is so funny?” asked Booker-T.
“Come see Midge's bug,” said Jake.
Midge and Booker-T walked to where Jake was sitting on the porch with the bug in front of him.
“Look at your bug,” said Jake. “What does it look like to you?”
Booker-T rolled on the porch laughing so hard he couldn't speak. Midge stood there and stared at the bug Jake had in front of him.
“Is that a.... ?” started to ask Midge when Jake interrupted her.
“Yes,” said Jake. “That is a false eyelash that girl humans wear.”
“Why?” asked Midge. “Do they have bald eyelids?”
“No,” laughed Jake. “They wear them to make their eyes look better.”
“Someone must be walking around with bald eyelids,” laughed Booker-T.
“I think they have their own eyelashes, “ said Jake. “I think they add these to their own.”
“How do they put them on?” asked Midge.
“I think they glue them on,” said Jake.
“How do you think I would look with these eyelashes?” smiled Midge.
“You want to wear them?” laughed Booker-T.
“Maybe,” said Midge. “Don't you think I would look good in them?”
“I think you would look funny,” said Jake. “How would you put them on anyway?”
“I guess that would be hard to do,” said Midge. I guess I will just have bald eyelids.”
“You don't have bald eyelids,” laughed Jake. “We all have eyelashes.”
“Lets go see the animals,” said Booker-T.
“I want to go to the gym,” said Midge. “Lets go.”
“You aren't going to to do anything until you try to get into the gym, are you?” asked Jake.
“No,” smiled Midge.
“Come on Booker-T,” said Jake. “Midge isn't going to stop until we go to the gym.”
“Okay,” said Booker-T. “Lets go.”
They walked to the gym as Midge told them what she wanted them to do so she could sneak into the gym.
“Okay Jake,” said Midge. “I see only one person at the door.”
Jake and Booker-T walked to the door and Booker-T tried to enter the gym. The man at the door stepped in his way and tried to block him. Booker-T ran past him into the building as Jake stood near the door. In a few minutes the man walked outside carrying Booker-T. He walked out about 3 feet from the door and set Booker-T on the ground. As he set him on the ground, Midge ran into the gym. When the man stood back up and walked back to the door where he was suppose to guard the door, he saw Midge on the stage.
“Hey!” called the man. “Come on down from there. Shoo shoo! Dennis, come help me get this dog out of the gym!”
Another man ran to the stage to help remove Midge from the gym. Midge danced around the stage trying to avoid the two men. When they got too close to her, she ran past them and down the stairs. As they stood there on the stage watching her, she ran outside where Jake and Booker-T stood waiting on her.
“Lets go to the zoo,” said Midge.

Booker-T and Jake laughed and agreed as the three walked away from the gym.

“Hey Midge!” called Booker-T when he entered the kitchen through the doggie door. “Where are you?”
“Hi Booker-T, “smiled Midge. “What are you doing?”
“I'm coming to see you and Snappy,” replied Booker-T. “What are you doing?”
“I'm eating my breakfast,” said Midge. “Did you eat?”
“I sure did,” said Booker-T. “I had some nice fish flavored food this morning. I like fish.”
“I don't like fish,” said Midge. “I like the chicken and beef flavored stuff better.”
“You eat your breakfast and I will go see Snappy,” suggested Booker-T.
“Okay,” said Midge.
Booker-T went to the living room to see Snappy while Midge ate her breakfast.

A Monster is Here

“Booker-T!” shouted Midge. “Where are you?”
“I'm coming,” said Booker-T as he walked toward the gate of the front yard. “Why are you in a hurry this morning?”
“We need to go warn Jake,” said Midge. “Hurry, hurry.”
“What is going on?” asked Booker-T. “Are you okay?”
“I'm fine right now,” said Midge. “Did you see it? Did you see it?”
“See what?” asked Booker-T. “I just came outside when I heard you calling me.”
“You didn't see the monster?” asked Midge. “He walked into the water park over there.”
“He's in the water park?” asked Booker-T. “When did he go in there?”
“Just a few minutes ago,” said Midge as she kept looking over toward the water park. “Do you want to go see?”

Silly Songs

“OOOO, EEEE, OOOO, Ah ah ting tang, walla walla bing bang,” sang Midge over and over as she walked out of her yard and met Booker-T at the gate to his yard.
“What are you singing?” laughed Booker-T. “Sounds a little strange.”
“It's the Witch Doctor song,” said Midge.
“A witch doctor?” asked Booker-T. “Why are you singing about a witch doctor?”
“It was on the radio this morning when my owner was getting ready for work,” said Midge.
“Do witches have their own doctors?” asked Booker-T.
“I don't know,” said Midge shaking her head. “Maybe they do.”
“Do we have any witches and witch doctors living here in our town?” asked Booker-T.
“I don't know,” said Midge. “Maybe Jake knows.”

“Hey Jake!” called Midge as she and Booker-T entered Jake's yard. “What are you doing?”
“I was sleeping,” said Jake.
“Why?” asked Midge. “It's morning time now.”
“I know,” smiled Jake. “I woke up when my owner was getting ready for work and ate my breakfast and then laid down in the cool breeze on the front porch and fell asleep. What are you two doing?”
“Midge wants to go to the new park,” said Booker-T. “Do you want to go?”
“Midge,” said Jake. “You can't ride the swing. Remember, you fell off.”
“I know,” sighed Midge. “I want to ride the merry-go-round”
“Why?” asked Jake. “Why do you want to go round and round and round on that thing and get dizzy.”

Midge and Booker-T slowly walked along the sidewalk on the way to Jake's house. As they passed the house across the street from Jake's house, they stopped and watched some kids outside swinging on the swings and going up and down on the teeter totter.
“That looks fun, Booker-T,” said Midge. “I want to do that too.”
“You can't swing on that,” said Booker-T. “How will you hang on?”
“I don't know,” said Midge. “Maybe it would go slow and I don't need to hold on.”
“You might slide off and land on the ground,” said Booker-T.
“Will you push me if I climb on it?” asked Midge.
“Maybe we better get Jake,” said Booker-T. “I think he can push it better than I can.”
“Okay,” agreed Midge as they started walking into the yard at Jake's house.
“What are you two doing?” asked Jake. “What were you looking at?”
“We were watching those kids swinging on those swings,” said Midge. “That looks like fun, Jake.”

Teeth

Midge walked around the house following her owner as she got ready to go leave and drive to work. Midge jumped onto the toilet lid and sat watching her owner as she brushed her teeth. She started at her tipping her head one way and then the other. She showed her teeth and her owner laughed at her.
“Do you want to brush your teeth, Midge?' asked her owner laughing. “Come on Midge, I have a nice treat for you that will help to clean your teeth.”
Midge leaped from the toilet seat and ran from the bathroom following her owner to the kitchen. She sat near her feet and waited as her owner pulled out this nice crispy cracker bone and handed it to her. Midge lay on the floor and chewed up the little cracker bone when her owner handed her one more. As Midge chewed up the next one, her owner prepared her bowl of fresh water and the other one with her daily food. Midge ate her breakfast and drank some water. She ran to the living room and jumped into the chair next to Snappy's tank.

Ghost in the Storm

Midge was laying on the end of her owners bed and drifting in and out of sleep as she listened to the thunder booming loud outside. Then came the lightening that would light up the room for a couple of seconds. In a few minutes she heard the rain beating against the window as the wind blew hard through the trees. She look over at her owner who was sound asleep hearing nothing that was going on outside. She rolled over and curled up again to try and sleep. Suddenly a loud boom of thunder and the flash of the lightening. She quickly sat up and stared at the window and she felt her little heart beating fast inside her chest.
Hurry morning time,” thought Midge. “The darkness is scary.”

Iggy, The Little Monster

The three friends left the area where the old cars sat and walked to the zoo. They stopped at the train station to watch the little zoo train arrive and lot of parents with their kids got off the train.
“I want to ride the train again,” sighed Midge. “Don't you want to ride it, Jake?”
“No,” said Jake.
“I don't want to ride it either,” said Booker-T. “That was scary being on the other side of the city and maybe having to walk all the way back over here.”
“But we didn't have to,” said Midge.
“We were lucky,” said Jake. “Lucky that they didn't find us and throw us off the train. I like just staying here and seeing the animals who come to this little zoo.”
“We can go in to this zoo and they don't chase us away,” said Booker-T.

The Cars

“Hey Booker-T!” called Midge as she got to Booker-T's gate to the yard. “Where are you?”
“Hi Midge,” greeted Booker-T as he ran around the house from the back yard. “Are you ready to go to Jake's house?”
“Lets go,” said Midge as they started up the sidewalk.
“Hi you guys,” said Gabby as he swooped down from on top of Booker-T's house.
“Hi Gabby,” said Midge. “What are you doing this morning?”
“I came to see what you are doing,” said Gabby.
“We are going to Jake's house,” said Booker-T. “Maybe we will go see what animals are in the little zoo building today.”
“Did you see that there is a car show over at the field area where the circus was?” asked Gabby.
“A car show?” asked Midge. “What kind of cars?”

The Strange New Pet

Midge sat on the porch staring at something in front of her. Booker-T entered the yard and sat down next to her.
“What are you doing?” asked Booker-T.
“I'm watching Jeremy,” said Midge.
“Who is Jeremy?” asked Booker-T. “I don't see anyone here but you and I.”
“He's right there,” said Midge. “You don't see him?”
“No,” said Booker-T. “Is he talking to you?”
“No,” said Midge. “You don't see him?”
“Are you okay?” asked Booker-T. “I don't see anyone here.”

Exercising

Booker-T hurried over to Midge's house so they could walk to Jake's house together.. He got to the gate and stopped and stared.. Midge was in the front yard acing strange. He just stood there watching her.
“Hey Booker-T,” called Midge as she turned and saw him standing at the gate. “What are you doing?”
“I was watching you,” smiled Booker-T. “What are you doing? You looked strange.”
“I was exercising,” said Midge.
“Exercising?” asked Booker-T. “I thought we exercised by running around the yard. What kind of exercising was that?”
“My owner was doing these last night,” said Midge.
“You look funny,” laughed Booker-T. “Those are human exercises aren't they?”

The Splash Party

“Hey Midge!” called Booker-T as he strolled through the gate at Midge's house. “Where are you?”
He didn't hear her call back to him so he walked around to the back yard and poked his head into the doggie door and looked around the kitchen. He didn't see Midge.
“Hey Midge!” called Booker-T again. “Where are you?”
Still no sounds from inside. He crawled through the doggie door into the kitchen and walked to the living room where he greeted Snappy.
“Hey Snappy,” greeted Booker-T as he jumped into the chair next to the tank.
“Hi Booker-T,” smiled Snappy. “Are you looking for Midge?”
“Yes,” replied Booker-T. “Do you know where she is?”
“She is sleeping,” laughed Snappy.
“She never sleeps late,” said Booker-T with a worried look. “Is she sick?”

Where is Melody

“Hey Booker-T!” called Midge as she got to the gate.
“Hi Midge,” said Booker-T as he came from behind the house. “What are you doing?”
“Are you ready to go to Jake's house?” asked Midge.
“Sure,” said Booker-T. “Lets go and get Melody on the way. She wants to come along.”
“Okay,” smiled Midge.
They walked along the sidewalk toward Melody's house who lived around the block. They stepped onto the front porch and called out to melody.
“Melody!” called Booker-T. “Where are you?”
They stood staring at the door and waited. Melody didn't come outside. They ran to the back yard and poked their head in through the doggie door.
“Melody!” called Midge. “Are you in here?”

Coffee

“Hey Midge!” called Jake as he poked his head through the doggie door in the back of her house. “What are you doing?”
“Hi Jake,” smiled Midge.
Jake squeezed through the door and entered the kitchen. “Hi Booker-T.”
“Hi Jake,” said Booker-T.
“What are you two doing?” asked Jake.
“My owner went to work and left her coffee cup on the table,” said Midge.
“We were tasting the coffee,” said Booker-T. “Have you ever tasted coffee?'
“No,” said Jake. “Can I try some?”
“Sure,” said Midge, pushing the cup across the table to Jake. “Try it.”
Jake stuck his tongue into the cup to taste the brown liquid inside.

What Happened to Spring

Midge came dancing out of the bedroom, singing. “Good morning Snappy!”
“You are in a good mood this morning,” smiled Snappy. “What are you going to do today?”
“Jake, Booker-T and I are going to the park to swim in the pond,” smiled Midge. “It's going to be so much fun.”
“Maybe you should look out the window,” said Snappy.
“Why?” asked Midge as she jumped into the chair beside the tank and peered out the window..
“What do you see?” asked Snappy.
“Oh my goodness,” sighed Midge as she looked from the window to Snappy and back to the window. “When did that start?”
“It was doing that when I woke up this morning,” said Snappy. “Did you know it was going to do that?”
“No,” said Midge. “I thought we were done with snow. We can't swim in the pond with snow on the ground.”

The New Park in Town

“Hey Jake!” called Midge as she and Booker-T came running into the gate at Jake's house.
“Hi Midge,” said Jake as he sat up. “Why are you two in such a hurry?”
“Guess what!” said Booker-T.
“It is so cool Jake,” said Midge. “It is so cool. You will like it.”
“It is exciting,” said Booker-T. “We just had to come and tell you about it.”
“Are you going to tell me what it is?' asked Jake.
“Oh yes,” said Midge. “I almost forgot.”
“We have a new park next door to the zoo,” said Booker-T.
“What kind of park?” asked Jake. “Why is it cool?”

Spring Cleaning

“Hey Midge!” called Jake as he came strolling through the gate. “What are you doing?”
“I'm watching my owner,” said Midge.
“What is she doing?” asked Jake as he looked through the front window where Midge was looking.
“I think she's gone nutty,” sighed Midge.
“Oh my,” said Jake as he looked at Midge and then back into the house. “She sure is making a mess in there.”
“I know,” said Midge.
“Why?” asked Jake.
“I don't know,” said Midge. “I heard her tell her friend that she was going to do something called Spring Cleaning.”

An Old Friend Comes Home

“Hey Jake!” called Midge as she and Booker-T strolled into the yard at Jake's house. “Where are you?”
“I'm back here in the back yard!” called Jake.
Midge and Jake ran around to the back yard and found Jake staring into the tree.
“What are you doing?” asked Booker-T.
“There is a little animal in the tree,” said Jake.
“What kind of animal?” asked Midge looking up into the tree trying to see what Jake was looking at.
“I'm not sure,” said Jake. “I thought it was a cat, but I can only see that he is brown.”
“Hello,” called Midge as she placed her front paws on the tree. “Who are you?”
“Why are you waking me up?” asked a voice from in the trees.

Flowers on the Wall

“Hey Midge!” called Jake as he strolled up the sidewalk to the front porch. “Where are you?”
Jake sat staring at the door and listened.  Midge didn't come out like she usually did when he calls.  He called again.  “Hey Midge!”
Still no answer.  Jake ran to the back of the house and poked his nose through the doggie door.  There was Midge in the middle of the kitchen floor, dancing around strangely.  For a few minutes he just quietly watched.  Midge was chasing her tail like puppies do.  Eventually, Jake pushed his way into the kitchen.
“What are you doing?” laughed Jake.  “And what is that on your back side?”
“Can you pull it off me?” asked Midge.  “I can't get it off.”
“Why are you wearing flowers on your back side?” asked Jake.
     “Isn't it pretty?” asked Midge.
“It is nice,” said Jake. “But where did you get it?'

Jake and the Strange Ball

The morning was early and Jake decided to go ahead and go to Midge's house.  He strolled along the sidewalk enjoying the quiet morning in the sun.  He saw something in the middle of the road that looked like a ball that some child must have lost.
“Looks like someone lost their ball,” thought Jake.
He ran to the ball and when he got close to it, he thought, “That's a funny looking ball.  It isn't very round like most balls I've played with.”
He put his nose close to the ball and quickly jumped back from it.  “Oh!” thought Jake.  “This is a really stinky ball.  No wonder they threw it away.  I think the ball is rotten.”
Jake tried to pick the ball up and it was falling apart.  The outside covering was falling off in pieces.   He threw it down and pushed it with his nose.  More of the covering came off as he shoved it down the street.  Now the smell got worse and his eyes began to water and burn.

The Races

The four friends headed to the school area where the races were to be held.  As they got closer to the school, they could hear the roaring of the motorcycles.
“Look!” said Midge.  “Where they are. Come on lets hurry.”
“They are really going fast,” said Melody.  “Why do they only go round and round in a circle?”
“I guess they are going in a circle because the track is in a circle,” said Midge.
“I think that would make me dizzy,” said Booker-T.  “Only going round and round in the same direction.”
“I wonder if they get dizzy,” said Melody.
Suddenly they heard a loud noise.  One of the motorcycles has fallen over and was sliding across the track on its side.
“Oh no!” said Jake.  “He crashed the motorcycle.  I hope he is okay.”
“I think so,” said Booker-T.  “See over there.  He is getting up now”
“Oh, good,” said Midge.  “I guess you were right Jake.  Those motorcycles are dangerous.  My legs are too short.”

Melody Meets Gabby

“Hi Jake!” called Midge when she saw him coming through the gate.
“Hey Midge!” smiled Jake. “What are you doing?”
“I'm waiting for Booker-T,” said Midge. “He went to Melody's house early this morning.”
“Who is Melody?” asked Gabby as he flew down from the tree and landed on the porch railing.
“Hi Gabby,” said Midge and Jake.
“Who is Melody?” asked Gabby again.
“She is our new friend,” said Jake. “She looks like Booker-T's twin.”
“Oh no!” laughed Gabby. “Two Booker-Ts. How lucky we are.”
“Are you being mean?” asked Jake. “She is really nice.”
“I'm kidding,” said Gabby.
“Here they come now,” said Midge. “Be nice Gabby.”

The Police

Midge, Booker-T and Melody strolled along the sidewalk on their way to Jake's house. As they were about to cross the street, a police car sped by them with their lights flashing and the siren blasting.
“Where are they going so fast?” asked Melody.
“I don't know,” said Booker-T. “But they sure are in a hurry.”
“Can we follow them?” asked Melody. “I want to see what they are doing.”
“I don't know where they went,” said Booker-T. “And we can't run that fast.”
“I can't see them anymore,” said Midge. “Lets go to Jake's house.”
“Was that the police?”asked Melody.
“Yes,” smiled Midge.
“Why do they have those red and blue lights on the top of their cars and make that loud noise?” asked Melody.
