Another New Year is Coming

“Hi Jake!” called Midge as she and Booker-T joined him on the front porch at his house.
“Hi you two,” greeted Jake.
“Happy New year to you,” sang Midge.
“Yes,” smiled Jake. “A new year is starting with more adventures and fun. Happy New Year to you too.”
“And now we have a new friend to share in our adventures, “ said Booker-T.
“Speaking about our new friend,” said Jake. “Where is Melody this morning?”
“I think her owner is supposed to come home from her family's place in the country,” said Booker-T. “I saw them leave on New Years Eve.”

Christmas is Coming

“Hey Jake!” called Midge as she and Booker-T entered the gate at Jake's place.
“Hi guys,” said Jake as he jumped out of the swing. “Where is Melody?”
“She went on a short three day trip with her owner,” said Booker-T. “They went to her brother's house for Christmas.”
“You know, Sunday is Christmas,” said Jake. “I think my owner's family is coming to our house for the day.”
“Mine too,” said Midge. “Do you know what your owner is going to do Booker-T?”
“She is going to her sister's house,” said Booker-T. “I heard her on the phone with her sister and I think they have someone they want her to meet.”
“Oh,” said Midge. “They are playing matchmaker.”
“What is matchmaker?” asked Booker-T. “I don't know what that is.”
“They are trying to get a boyfriend for her,” said Jake.

Melody Visits the Zoo

“Hello Midge,” greeted Jake as he came into the yard at Midge's house. “What are you doing?”
“I'm waiting for Booker-T to come to the house,” said Midge. “Then we were going to come see you.”
“Where is Booker-T” asked Jake.
“I don't know,” said Midge. “I walked to his house, but he wasn't home. Maybe he is sleeping and didn't hear me call his name.”
“Maybe he went to Melody's house,” suggested Jake. “I think he really likes her.”
“I think he does too,” said Midge. “He tries really hard to include her with us all the time now.”
“You are right,” said Midge. “Here they come now.”
“The twins,” smiled Jake.
“They do look a lot like twins don't they,” laughed Midge.

The Big Wheel

“Hey Midge!” called Booker-T as he entered the gate at Midge's house
“Hi Booker-T,” greeted Midge as she came from the back yard.
“What is your owner doing?” asked Booker-T. “I thought she would be gone to work.”
“She is getting ready for work” said Midge “You are really early this morning. Did you forget the time?”
“I thought we could go to that ride park and check it out before all the construction people got there,” said Booker-T. “ We can check out those neat looking rides.”
“I think construction people start their days early,” said Midge. “I remember them showing up really early across the street when they built that water park over there. My owner should be going in a few minutes and we can go check it out.”
Booker-T sat down on the porch and waited with Midge. When her owner drove away from the house, they hurried out the gate to go to Jake's house.

“Hi Booker-T,” said Midge as she came around to the front of the house.
“What are you doing?”asked Booker-T.
“Nothing,” smiled Midge. “I just ate breakfast. What are you doing?”
“Nothing,” replied Booker-T.
“What are we this morning?” asked Midge.
“What?” asked Booker-T.
“We are a couple of do nothing animals,” said Midge.
“What do you want to do?” asked Booker-T.
“Lets get Jake and go see what they are doing at the new park,” suggested Midge.
“Do you want to ask Melody to come along?” asked Booker-T.

Was Booker-T Sleep Walking

Jake was slowly walking along the sidewalk on his way to Midge's house. Up the street, he saw Booker-T hurrying along the sidewalk.
“Booker-T!” called Jake, but he kept on hurrying on his way.
I wonder what is wrong with Booker-T!” thought Jake as he started running to try and catch up to him.
“Booker-T!” called Jake again. “Wait a minute. Where are you going?”
Booker-T began running in the opposite direction, ignoring Jake's calls out to him.
I don't understand,” thought Jake as he stopped and watched Booker-T turn the corner and disappear from sight. “I wonder what happened and where he is going? Maybe Midge knows.
Jake continued on is way to Midge's house, all the time thinking about Booker-T. He crossed the street and hurried into the yard through the gate at her house.
“Midge!” called Jake as he stepped on the front porch. “Where are you?”

The New Park

“Hey Jake!” called Midge as she and Booker-T strolled through the front gate at Jake's house. “Where are you?”
“Jake?” called Booker-T. “Are you home?”
“Maybe he went to the vet,” said Midge.
They didn't hear anything so started to go around to the back of the house. As they turned the corner they met Jake coming around the house from the back.
“Hi you guys,” greeted Jake. “What are you doing?”
“We came to see you, but you didn't answer when we called you at the front door,” said Midge.
“Were you hiding?” asked Booker-T.
“I was in the back and didn't hear you,” said Jake. “I was just coming around to go to your house.”
“Well, we are here,” said Midge.
“Ah yes,” said Jake. “I see you are here.”

Memories

“Hey Midge!” called Booker-T as he sat on her front porch staring at the door. “Where are you?” Midge!”
“Hi Booker-T,” greeted Jake as he joined him on the porch. “Where is Midge?”
“I don't know,” said Booker-T. “I have been calling her name but she hasn't come outside.”
“Did you go inside?” asked Jake. “The doggie door in the back is always open.”
“I tried,” said Booker-T. “It is locked right now.”
“She must be gone with her owner somewhere,” suggested Jake.
“Maybe this is time for her vet checkup and shots,” said Booker-T.
“Maybe,” said Jake. “I think mine is next week and I know Midge always went before I did.”
“I hope that is where she went,” said Booker-T. “I hope she is not sick.”
“Have you ever seen Midge sick?” asked Jake.

“Hey Jake!” called Midge as they entered the yard through the gate. “Where are you?”
“Jake!” called Booker-T.
“Hey you guys,” smiled Jake as he came around from the back of the house. “What are you two doing?”
“Well, we came to see what you are doing,” said Midge.
“I wasn't doing anything,” said Jake.
“We weren't doing anything either,” said Booker-T. “Midge was trying to find something to do.”
“Hi you guys!” greeted Gabby as he flew down from the trees above. “What are you guys doing?”
“Hi Gabby,” said Midge.
“We are trying to find something to do today,” said Jake.
“You don't go to the pond anymore,” said Gabby.

The Story Continues

“Midge!” called Snappy. “Where are you? I'm waiting for you to finish your story!”
“I'm coming,” said Midge as she came through the door back into the living room..
“What more can you add?” asked Jake. “We left there and went home.”
“We did,” agreed Booker-T. “But you know Midge.”
“Oh no,” said Jake. “What did she do?”
“Well, Booker-T and I left Jake's house and we started to walk home,” said Midge. “But I couldn't stop thinking about that movie they were making.”
“She talked me into going back to the school grounds where they were filming,” said Booker-T.
“I will bet it didn't take too much to talk you into it,” laughed Jake.

Midge Tells A Story

“Hey Booker-T!” called Midge from the back yard when she saw him digging in the back. “What are you doing?”
“Hi Midge,” said Booker-T. “I was just playing around. What are you doing this morning?”
“Nothing,” said Midge. “Come on over and say hi to Snappy.”
“I will be there in a few minutes,” said Booker-T as he ran to the front of the house.
Booker-T hurried to Midge's house and met her in the back yard. He followed her into the house and they hurried to the living room where Snappy was sitting on a small log in his tank.
“Hi Snappy!” smiled Booker-T.
“Hi Booker-T,” greeted Snappy. “What are you doing? I'm so happy you came to see me.”
“Midge asked me to come in,” said Booker-T. “I am always happy to come see you. Do you miss being at the pond in the park?”
“Oh no,” said Snappy. “My little home here is really nice. I miss seeing you guys sometimes, but Midge is here all the time, so I'm not lonely.”

Stars in Midge's Eyes

After eating and taking a nice nap, Booker-T and Midge told Jake good-bye and started for home.
“Do you want to be in the movies, Booker-T?” asked Midge.
“Why do we want to be in the movies?” asked Booker-T.
“We could be famous,” said Midge.
“You want to be famous?” asked Booker-T.
“I think so,” said Midge. “I saw this movie with my owner one night about a big dog. I think her name was Lassie.”
“Was it a good movie?” asked Booker-T.
“Lassie was a really smart dog,” said Midge. “She was pretty too.”
“They are making an alien movie,” said Booker-T. “We don't look like aliens.”

Space Aliens Are Here

“Jake! Jake!” called Midge and she and Booker-T ran into the yard at Jake's house.
“Where are you?” called Booker-T. “Jake!”
Jake came running around the corner of the house and quickly stopped in front of Midge. “What is going on? Why are you all excited?”
“Jake,” said Midge trying to catch her breath. “The space aliens have landed. They are here, Jake!”
“Midge,” said Jake. “Slow down. Remember when you came running telling me the aliens had landed and it turned out to be a hot air balloon and the next time it was an advertisement for a new cafe. How do you know that is a real thing?”
“I saw them too Jake,” said Booker-T as he paced back and forth.
“Where are they?” asked Jake.

The Zoo Monster

Midge, Jake and Booker-T strolled to the zoo and as they arrived, they saw a truck pull up to the gate. “Hurry,” said Midge as she hurried toward the truck. “Lets go see what they have in the truck.”
Two big men climbed out of the truck and walked to the back. They opened the door to the back of the truck and carefully pulled a huge cage from the back.
“Can you see it Jake?” asked Midge trying to get closer.
“No,” said Jake. “The truck is in the way.”
They walked closer to the building and peeked in between the truck and the gate of the building. In the cage, they saw a big lizard.
“Wow!” said Booker-T. “That is a really big lizard.”
“What kind of lizard is it?” asked Midge.

The Rope

“Hi Booker-T,” said Midge as she stopped at his gate. “Are you ready to go to Jake's house?”
“Sure,” said Booker-T. “What are you carrying?”
“I have a rope,” said Midge.
“What are you going to do with the rope?” asked Booker-T.
“Do you remember those girls last week in the park?” asked Midge.
“The three in the pond?” asked Booker-T.
“No,” said Midge. “The four girls who were near the pond with a big rope.”
“Oh, yes,” smiled Booker-T. “I remember them. They had a rope and were jumping over the rope.”
“I want to jump the rope,” said Midge.

A New Little Friend

“Little fishes swimming in the pond,” sang Midge. “Little frogs all around.”
“What are you doing?” asked Booker-T as he walked around to the back yard where he found Midge sitting beside the pond.
“Hi Booker-T,” smiled Midge. “What are you doing?”
“I asked you first,” said Booker-T. “You were singing when I walked back here.”
“Look at my new little friend,” said Midge.
“Where?” asked Booker-T looking around the yard for this new friend. “I don't see a new friend.”
“Right here,” said Midge. “Sitting on the side of the pond.”
“Oh,” said Booker-T. “That's your new friend?”

The Wagon Ride

“Hey Jake!” called Midge as she and Booker-T strolled up the sidewalk to the front porch where Jake was sitting on the swing.
“Hey you two,” said Jake.
“Hi Jake,” said Booker-T.
“Want to go to the big zoo?' laughed Jake.
“Oh no!” said Midge. “Do you really want to go to the big zoo again?”
“No,” said Jake. “I was kidding. I think it is too much trouble trying to go across town.”
“I think you are right,” smiled Midge. “We have a nice little zoo right here we can go see the animals.”
“It was a nice ride to the zoo,” said Booker-T. “But I don't want to get taken to a pound with cages if they catch us. I think it is safer for us to stay here close to home.”
“What do you want to do today?” asked Midge.

The Visit to the Zoo

The three friends wandered through the zoo. “Hey Jake,” said Midge. “Look at this strange looking animal.”
Jake stood staring at the animal and looked around for the sign that told them what it was. He walked to the sign and stood reading. “It says it is a warthog,” said Jake.
“Warthog?” said Midge.
“That's a funny name,” said Booker-T. “What is a warthog?”
“Does it have a lot of warts?” asked Midge.
“This says he is in the pig family,” said Jake.
“I never saw a pig that looked like him,” said Booker-T. “He looks funny.”
“He sure looks different,” said Midge.

Are We Going to the Zoo

“Hey Jake,” said Booker-T. “Here comes the train driver I think.”
“That's the engineer,” said Jake.
“Don't the engineer drive the train?” asked Midge.
“Yes,” said Jake.
“After he opens the door,” said Midge. “We can try to run to the back of the car and crawl under the seat.”
“Are you sure you want to go across town to the other zoo?” asked Jake. “Remember we might end up in the animal shelter and our owners will not be happy with us.”
“That would be bad,” said Midge. “Our owners would really be upset if they didn't know where we are.”

I Think I Can

“I think we can, I think we can,” sang Midge as she strolled along the sidewalk to Booker-T's house. “I think we can, I think we can.”
“Hey there Midge,” smiled Booker-T as he came around the house. “What are you singing?”
“A little song from this movie my owner played for her nephew one day,” said Midge. “I think we can, I think we can. There is nothing we can't do.”
“I know you always try things,” said Booker-T. “Even if you can't do it, you try.”
“You never know until you try,” said Midge. “I think we can.”
“Oh no,” said Booker-T.
“Oh no, what?” asked Midge.
“What are you wanting to do that you think we can do?” asked Booker-T.
“Why do you think we are going to do anything?” asked Midge.
“Because I know you,” said Booker-T. “I think you want to try something and you think we can do it.”

Porky

“Come on Jake,” said Midge. “I want to go see that funny looking animal in the other corner.”
“That's Porky,” said Andy. “He is different.”
“He looks like he is having a bad hair day,” laughed Midge. “Why is his hair sticking out like that?”
“I don't know,” said Andy. “I don't have any hair.”
“Why don't you have hair?” asked Booker-T.
“I don't know,” said Andy. “I look like I am wearing armour.”
“Why do you need armour?” asked Jake.
“I don't know,” said Andy. “I've never been in a fight before.”
“You are the first animal I ever saw with no hair,” said Midge. “Do you miss having hair?”
“I don't know,” said Andy. “I never had any.”

Trip to the Zoo

“Here I come to save the day!” sang Jake as he strolled along the sidewalk.
“Hey Jake!” called Booker-T as he ran to the fence to greet Jake. “What are you doing?”
“I'm on the way to see you and Midge,” said Jake. “Do you want to go the little zoo again today?”
“Oh yes,” said Booker-T. “That would be great. We haven't been there in a while. I wonder what animals are there now.”
Booker-T walked with Jake into Midge's yard. “Midge!” called Jake. “Where are you?”
“Midge!” called Booker-T. “Lets go inside through the doggie door and see Snappy while we are here.”
Jake and Booker-T ran around to the back of the house and met Midge coming through the door. “Hi you guys,” smiled Midge. “What are you doing?”
“We came to see you,” said Jake. “We want to go to the little zoo holding place again and see who is there now.”
“Do you want to go?” asked Booker-T.

Children's Rhyme's

“Row row your boat,” sang Midge as she strolled over to Booker-T's house. “Gently down the stream.”
“What are you singing Midge?” asked Booker-T.
“Some song I heard my owners nephew singing one day,” said Midge.
“What is it about?” asked Booker-T.
“Somebody is rowing a boat down some stream somewhere,” said Midge.
“Where are they going in the boat?” asked Booker-T.
“I don't know,” said Midge. “The song never says where they are going.”
“It don't say where they are going?” asked Booker-T.

Snappy Goes for a Swim

“Hey Midge!” called Jake as he came hurrying through the gate at Midge's house.
“Hi Jake,” said Booker-T as he caught up with Jake.
“Hi,” said Jake. “I didn't see you when I went past your house.”
“I came out the door just as you passed,” said Booker-T. “So I ran to catch up to you.”
“Have you seen Midge this morning?” asked Jake.
“No,” said Booker-T. “Lets go in and see Snappy while we are here. Maybe she is inside eating her breakfast. Her owner just left for work a few minutes ago.”
“Okay,” said Jake. “Hurry.”
They went to the back of the house and as they came around the corner, they stopped and stared at the new pond that now stood in the back yard.
“Wow,” said Booker-T. “Looks like they finished the pond last night after we went home.”

The Wet Cement

“Hey Look!” said Jake. “Here comes a little tractor.”
“A tractor?” asked Booker-T. “What are they going to do with the tractor?”
“I don't know,” said Midge.
The three watched as a man drove the little tractor to the back yard and stopped in front of the hole. Then the tractor lowered what look like an upside down tub with teeth.
“It looks like a monster,” said Booker-T.
“Oh,” said Midge. “He's digging the hole little deeper with that tractor. Wow, that's cool. That tractor digs holes better than we do.”
As the hole got deeper and wider, the pile of dirt grew bigger and bigger. When the man finished digging the hole and drove the tractor back to the front, Jake ran up the dirt hill and stood on the top.
“Look guys,” Laughed Jake. “I'm king of the hill.”

“Hi Jake,” said Midge as she came running around the house. “I'm in the back yard. What are you doing?”
“I came to see you,” said Jake. “I see a truck in front of your house.”
“Come on to the back,” said Midge. “The man is here to finish the digging we started. My owner is going to put in the nice pond.”
“Oh, wow,” said Jake. “That is really good.”
“What will be really good?” asked Booker-T as he came around the corner of the house to the back. “Hi you guys.”
“The pond will be good,” said Midge. “My owner is having it put in. See the hole?”

The Pond is Started

The three friends dug all morning on the hole in the back yard of Midge's house.
“Does it look like it is big enough now?” asked Midge as she sat down beside the hole.
“I think so,” said Booker-T. “What do you think Jake?”
“Well, maybe it is big enough,” agreed Jake.
“What are you guys doing?” asked Gabby as he flew down and landed near the hole.
“We are digging a pond,” said Midge. “Do you want to help?”
“I wouldn't be too good at digging a hole in the ground,” laughed Gabby. “Do you see my little feet?”
“Oh,” said Midge. “I forgot.”
“Looks like it will be a small pond,” said Gabby strolling around the hole. “I think they are bigger than this hole is.”

Digging the Pond

“Hey Midge!” called Jake as he came running through the gate. “Where are you?”
“Good morning Jake,” smiled Midge. “You are early this morning. Booker-T and I were going to come to your house soon.”
“I know,” said Jake. “My owner left for work early this morning so I came over here.”
“It's good to see you early,” said Midge. “My owner hasn't left yet to go to work.”
“I see the car,” said Jake. “Do you think she will care if I am over here with you?”
“Oh no,” said Midge. “But when she comes out the door, hide by the tree over there.”
“You want me to hide?” asked Jake. “Why?”

Snappy Visits With Friends

Booker-T ran over to Midge's house and slipped into the house through the back doggie door.
“Hey Midge!” called Booker-T. “Where are you?”
“Hi Booker-T,” greeted Midge as she entered the kitchen. “What are you doing?”
“I saw your owner leave so came to see Snappy,” said Booker-T.
“Snappy will enjoy seeing you, said Midge. “Come on.”
The two entered the living room and crossed the room to where Snappy's tank sat on the table in front of the window. The sun shone through the window and Snappy was sitting on top of the small log in his tank enjoying the sunshine. Booker-T leaped into the chair beside the tank and placed his paws onto the glass.
“Hi Snappy,” greeted Booker-T.

Bitsy and the Pond

The friends all hurried to the pond and Bitsy sat on a large branch that was coming out of the water onto the bank of the pond. Midge, Jake and Booker-T leaped into the water.
“Bitsy!” called Booker-T. “Come on in. The water is cool.”
“But I don't know how to swim,” said Bitsy.
“You didn't know how to fly and you did it,” said Jake.
“I think you birds swim automatically,” said Midge. “I think you just float.”
“I float?” asked Bitsy. I don't think so. My momma told me that ducks float. I'm not a duck.”

The Race

“Dummm di dummm,” sang Midge as she hurried along the sidewalk to meet Booker-T at his house and together they were going to Jake's house.
“Hi Midge,” said Booker-T as he came through the gate to join Midge on the walk to Jake's. “What are we going to do today?”
“I think we are going to the park for a little swim in the pond,” said Midge. “I think it is warm enough.”
“I think so too,” said Booker-T. “Too bad Snappy can't go with us. I wonder if he is missing the pond in the summer time?”
“I don't think so anymore,” smiled Midge. “He sure loves his nice inside home.”
“It is safer for him,” said Booker-T as they skipped along the sidewalk.
The two hurried around the corner and entered the front yard at Jake's house.

Bitsy and the Flying Lesson

“Good morning Midge,” said Jenny as she flew down and landed on the bench.
“Hi Jenny,” said Midge. “Bitsy has been waiting for you and is really excited about learning to fly.”
“Hi momma,” smiled Bitsy.
“Hi Bitsy,” smiled Jenny. “Are you ready to learn to fly?”
“Oh yes,” said Bitsy. “I'm so excited.”
“What happened to you?” asked Jenny. “When I went back to the nest with some food, you were gone. I looked every where for you and couldn't find you.”
“I fell out of the nest,” said Bitsy.”
“How?” asked Jenny.
“I was standing on the edge of the nest and a big wind came and I fell out,” said Bitsy.

Gabby Comes to Help

“Hey guys!” greeted Gabby as he flew down from the tree and landed on the table. “What are you guys doing?”
“Hi Gabby,” smiled Midge. “We are talking with Bitsy.”
“Who is Bitsy?” asked Gabby.
“This is Bitsy,” said Booker-T pointing to the tiny bird sitting on the cloth near the bench.
Gabby flew over to the bench and landed on the seat. “Well, well,” smiled Gabby. “You are Bitsy?”
“Yes,” said Bitsy. “Can you help me? Midge said you could help me.”
“Help you do what?” asked Gabby.
“I can't find my mother,” sighed Bitsy. “Midge carried me here to her house and said you could help.”
“That sounds like Midge,” smiled Gabby. “She is always there to help someone.”
“We all want to help you if we can,” said Jake.
“Where did you see your mother last?” asked Gabby.

The Little Baby

Midge and Booker-T walked along the sidewalk on their way to Jake's house. Midge looked over toward the little cafe and saw something laying in the grass.
“Wait Booker-T,” said Midge. “What is that laying over there?”
“I don't know,” said Booker-T. “Lets go see.”
They walked across the street and found a baby bird laying in the grass.
“Hi little one,” said Midge. “Why are you laying here on the ground?”
“Please don't hurt me,” cried the little bird.
“It's okay little one,” said Midge. “We aren't going to hurt you. We want to help you if we can.”
“What happened?” asked Booker-T. Are you okay?”

Walking in the Rain

“Raindrops keep falling on my head,” sang Midge as she and Booker-T strolled along the sidewalk splashing through the puddles on the sidewalk.
“They keep falling,” added Booker-T. “Why are we walking in the rain?”
“Because we are going to Jake's house,” said Midge. “And it's raining.”
“Maybe we should have stayed home inside the house today,” suggested Booker-T.
“Rain rain go away,” sang Midge. “Come again another day.”
“I'm ready for some sunshine,” sighed Booker-T. “This is the fourth day of rain.”
“Hey Jake!” called Midge as her and Booker-T hurried through the gate. “Where are you?”
“Hey you two,” said Jake as he sat up in the swing. “Did you come in an ark?'
“No,” said Midge shaking her head. “What is an ark?”

“Do you want to go to the park today?” asked Midge.
“Do you think it is warm enough to go swimming today?” asked Booker-T.
“Maybe it will be a little warmer later in the morning,” said Jake. “I think it is a little cool right now.”
“Are you getting a new neighbor?” asked Midge when the big moving truck pulled into the driveway across the street.
“They started moving in yesterday afternoon,” said Jake.
“Do they have any pets?” asked Booker-T.

Let Your Imagination Go

Midge and Booker-T stood at the gate to Jake's yard and watched him pacing back and forth across his yard.  “What's he doing?” whispered Booker-T.
   “I don't know,” said Midge.
“Do you think he knows we are here?” asked Booker-T.
“I think he is so busy,” said Midge. “I don't think he has seen us.”
“What am I going to do Charlene?” said Jake as he stopped and stared at the porch.  “You know I love you.  I will miss you when you go with Henry.”
    “Who is Charlene?” asked Booker-T.
“I don't think he ever told me who Charlene is,” said Midge.
“And who is Henry?” asked Booker-T.

Midge Lost in Thought

Midge was sitting on the front porch staring at the sky above, deep in thought and didn't notice Jake and Booker-T as they came through the gate.
“Midge,” said Jake. “What are you doing?”
“Midge!” called Booker-T. “Earth to Midge. Are you in there somewhere?”
   “Midge!” called Jake.
“Oh, hi you guys,” said Midge.  “When did you get here?”
“We've been here a few minutes calling your name,” said Jake.
“You were lost in thought somewhere,” said Booker-T.  “Where were you?”

The Strange Songs

“Buffalo girls won't you come out tonight,” sang Jake as he strolled along the sidewalk on his way to Midge's house. “Won't you come out tonight and dance by the light of the moon.”
“Hi Jake,” said Booker-T as he came out his gate and joined Jake on the way to Midge's house.”What are you singing?”
“I was singing about Buffalo girls coming out to dance,” said Jake.
“Dancing Buffaloes?” asked Booker-T. “I didn't know that the buffaloes could dance. Wow, I want to see one of those dancing buffaloes.”
“I didn't know they could dance either,” said Jake. “But the song wants them to dance.”

What Do You Want To Do?

“Hey Midge!” called Booker-T as he entered the doggie door. “Where are you?”
“Hi Booker-T,” said Snappy when he saw Booker-T enter the living room. “What are you doing?”
“Hi Snappy,” said Booker-T. “I was just looking for Midge.”
“Didn't you see her outside when you came into the back yard?” asked Snappy.
“No,” said Booker-T. “Was she outside?”
“She went outside a few minutes before you came in,” said Snappy.
“Maybe I missed her when I came in,” said Booker-T.

New Day at the Zoo

“Animals marching two by two,” sang Midge as she and Booker-T strolled along the sidewalk.. “Sing with me Booker-T.”
“Oh no,” said Booker-T. “You don't want to hear me sing. I'm terrible.”
“Why?” asked Midge. “You can't be worse than I am.”
“I'm very bad,” said Booker-T. “I sound like a really sick animal about to kick the bucket. If I start singing, people would think an air raid just went off in the neighborhood. I'm really bad.”
“Try” said Midge. “I want to hear you. It will be okay.”
“Animals marching two by two,” sang Booker-T.
Suddenly they heard some dogs in the neighborhood howling very loudly.

Midge The Joker

“Hello Jake!” called Midge as she and Booker-T came through the gate at Jake's house.
“Hey Jake!” called Booker-T as he sat down near the porch, smiling at Jake.
“Hi you guys,” said Jake. “What are you two doing this morning? You look like you two are doing something sneaky.”
“Are you sleeping Jake?” laughed Midge, as she joined Booker-T and sat down.
“No,” said Jake shaking his head. “I'm talking to you, aren't I? Why do you think I'm sleeping? Do I look like I'm sleeping?”
“You asked us what we were doing,” said Midge. If you aren't sleeping, you would know what we are doing, wouldn't you?”
“Right,” agreed Jake. “Does that mean I'm sleeping now because I ask what you are doing?”

Midge and the Hula Hoop

Midge and Booker-T started walking along the sidewalk to Jake's house. Laying in the middle of the road, Midge found a hula hoop.
“Wait,” said Midge. “I want to get that hula hoop.”
“What are you going to do with a hula hoop?” asked Booker-T.
“Maybe I can find something to do with it,” said Midge.
“Like what?” asked Booker-T. “You can't make it go round and round on your hips like those kids do.”
“Well, let me think about it a while,” said Midge rolling her eyes.
“You have no ideas?” asked Booker-T. “But I do think your brain is trying to find one.”

Gabby Talks to Midge

Midge, Jake and Booker-T slowly walked along the sidewalk to Jake's house. Midge was quiet as they walked along. She was not her bubbly self this afternoon.
“Are you okay Midge?” asked Jake. “You are being so quiet and that's not like you.”
“I'm fine Jake,” said Midge.
“You don't look fine,” said Booker-T. “You look like you are feeling bad. Are you sick?”
“Hi guys!” greeted Gabby as he swooped down closer to the three as they walked along the sidewalk. “What is wrong with Midge? I have never seen her looking so bad before. Is she sick?”

The Dog Show Arrives

Midge and Booker-T entered the ate at Jake's house and Midge was wearing her pretty pink bows on her ears and her pink rhinestone collar.
“Hey Jake!” called out Midge. “Where are you?”
“I'm here,” said Jake as he came round to the front of the house. “Wow Midge. You are really looking great this morning.”
“Don't she look as good as all those show dogs at the show?” asked Booker-T.
“She sure does,” agreed Jake. “You really deserve a blue ribbon Midge, but without being entered into the show, I don't think you will get one. Please don't be too upset if you don't win one and they kick you out of the ring.”

Midge and the Dog Show

“Hi Jake!” greeted Midge as she and Booker-T came through the gate at his house. “What are you doing?”
“I am looking at the pictures in this book,” smiled Jake.
“Pictures of what?” asked Booker-T.
“Pretty show dogs,” replied Jake. “There are many different kinds of dogs in those dog shows. Little dogs, big dogs and medium dogs. Look at this boxer. Don't you think she is great looking. I would like to meet her.”
“I've seen some of them on TV when my owner watched the dog shows sometimes,” said Midge. “Some of those dogs are really snooty acting too and so are their owners.”
“How do you know they are snooty without talking to them?” asked Jake.

Visiting the Farm

“Hey Midge!” called Jake as he came through the gate at her house. “Where are you ?” I don't see you.”
“I'm in the back,” said Midge as she walked to the front of the house.
“Is Booker-T here yet?” asked Jake.
“No,” said Midge. “I haven't seen him yet today.”
“Do you want to go see the horses and the cows at the farm?” asked Jake.
“Sure,” smiled Midge. “Maybe the cows will give us some milk to drink.”
“How will they do that?” asked Jake. “The people have to milk them.”
“I don't know,” said Midge. “I guess we can just look at them and maybe they will talk to us.”
“Lets go find Booker-T,” said Jake.
“I'm right here,” said Booker-T as he joined the two. “What are we going to look at?”

The Spinning Ride

Midge and Booker-T walked along the sidewalk to Jake's house. Midge dragged the little sled behind her. Jake met them as they came through the gate at his house.
“Why are you pulling the sled?” asked Jake. “You aren't going downhill again I hope.”
“She wants to pick up some rocks from the pond for Snappy,” said Booker-T.
“The sled was easier to pull in the snow than the little wagon,” said Midge. “I tried to pull the wagon and I kept getting stuck.”
“It will be hard to find rocks in the snow Midge,” laughed Jake. “Why don't you wait til Spring comes or at least all the snow melts.”
“I didn't think of that,” sighed Midge. “I told Snappy I would get him some new rocks. I guess he will understand if I can't find any in the snow.”

Midge sat on the front porch staring at the sky. “Once upon a time in a far far away land,” she whispered. “There lived a beautiful princess with golden hair of curls.
“Midge!” called Jake three times. “Earth to Midge! What are you doing? Didn't you hear me calling you?”
“Oh, hi Jake,” said Midge. “I was making up a story and I was thinking and talking at the same time.”
“A story about what?” asked Jake.
“A story about a princess dog who as looking for her prince of a dog,” said Midge.
“Who is looking for a prince of a dog” asked Booker-T as he joined Midge and Jake on the front porch.
“Midge is making up a story in her head,” said Jake. “Maybe she is looking for that prince of a dog.”
“Will you settle for a prince of a cat?” laughed Booker-T. “I would make a wonderful prince don't you think?”

Opening Day

“Hi Booker-T,” greeted Jake as he was on his way to Midge's house.
“Hi Jake,” said Booker-T as he came through the gate and joined Jake on his walk to Midge's.
“Does Midge still want to sneak on the train today?” asked Jake.l
“It is all that she has been talking about,” laughed Booker-T. “All the way home from your house yesterday. She really wants to ride that train.”
“I guess we can't talk her out of it either,” said Jake. “You do know that this train ride could be the train to nowhere for us if they see us on the train.”
“Oh no Jake,” said Booker-T. “It's the train to the zoo and the shopping centers and I think it even goes to the airport.”

The New Zoo Train

“Hey Jake!” called Midge as she and Booker-T walked up the sidewalk to the front porch where they found Jake sleeping on the swing.
“Hey to you too Midge,” smiled Jake as he sat up.
“Here we are Jake,” said Booker-T. “Ready for another year of fun.”
“New and exciting things to come,” agreed Jake. “It is never a dull moment with Midge around.”
“Snappy is all ready for the brand new year too,” said Midge. “My owner got him a nice new tank and put him in it this morning.”
“That is wonderful, said Jake. “I know he is happy in his new home and not having to be in the cold pond in the winter time.”
“I saw on the news last night that the train station near the little zoo holding place, will open in a week,” smiled Midge. “Are we ready for that train ride to the big zoo?”
