The New Skateboard Ramp

Jake and Midge where sitting on Midge's front porch waiting on Booker-T to walk over so they could go to the park. “Lets go in and talk to Snappy while we wait,” suggested Midge.
Sure,” said Jake. “Lets go. It has been a few days since I saw him.”
They walked to the back of the and house and squeezed through the doggie door. Once inside they quickly crossed the kitchen and entered the living room. “Hey Snappy,” called Jake when he got close to the tank that he called home.
Snappy looked out the glass of the tank,” Hi Jake.”

How are you today?” asked Jake. “I haven't seen you in a few days.”
I am good,” said Snappy. “Midge tells me every day of your adventures.”
“That's good,” said Jake. “We miss you when we go to the pond to swim.”
But winter is coming now and the pond will be really cold,” said Snappy.
We will find something else to do when it is too cold to swim,” said Midge.
What are you going to do today?” asked Snappy.
We are going over to the school neighborhood and see if there is anyone using the new Skateboard ramps that they built behind the post office.” said Midge.
I remember you telling me the school was the only thing over there,” said Snappy. “What is over there now?”
Well, they built a new fire station and moved the truck and ambulance over there and next door to it is a new police station too,” said Jake.
And next to the school is our vet's office,” said Midge. “On the other side of the school yard is a big new Hospital.”
The new skateboard ramps are behind the post office,” added Jake. “I've only seen skateboarders on TV when my owner is watching a movie and they are in it.”
I've never seen one,” said Midge. “And I don't think Booker-T has seen one either.”
Don't think I have seen what?” asked Booker-T as he entered the room.
Hi Booker-T,” said Jake. “Midge was just saying that you hadn't seen a skateboarder before.”
No,” said Booker-T. “I don't even know what a skateboard is.”
Maybe you saw one and don't know what it was,” suggested Midge.
What does it look like?” asked Booker-T.
It is a flat board with wheels on the bottom and the kids ride on it,” said Midge.
It isn't totally flat,” said Jake. “Each end of the board it raised up some.”
Why?” asked Booker-T.
I don't know,” said Jake. “Maybe so they don't slide off.”
How do they stay on it?” asked Midge. “Do they wear it like the roller skates?”
I don't know how they stay on,” said Jake. “It isn't like roller skates. We will have to wait and see what they do with them. Maybe someone will be at the ramp using one.”
It sounds like fun,” said Snappy. “You will have to tell me all about it when you get home Midge.”
I sure will,” said Midge. “Lets go guys.”
Bye,” said Snappy as the three turned to leave the room.
Bye,” said Jake.
See you later,” said Midge.
Bye,” said Booker-T.
The three slowly made their way along the sidewalk go to the school neighborhood. They looked both ways and when they saw that no one was coming, they safely crossed the street. A police car passed them as they entered the area. They stood a moment and waited to see if a fire truck or ambulance was coming along behind, but nothing else passed them along the road.
Look over there,” said Jake. “There is someone on the ramp now going to ride the skateboard. Hurry.”
They quickly crossed into the area and sat down to watch the boy on the skateboard. He started down the ramp and then quickly went up the ramp on the other side and for a few seconds was in the air where he twisted and came back down and onto the ramp.
Wow!” said Midge. “How does he stay on that board like that?”
I don't know,” said Jake. “That is so cool.”
I want to try that,” said Midge. “That really looks like fun.”
You don't have a skateboard to ride,” said Jake.
Maybe I can find one,” said Midge.
Where are you going to find a skateboard?” asked Booker-T. “You can't buy one.”
I don't know yet,” said Midge. “I will have to think about it.”
Lets go,” said Jake.
The three walked away and before long, they saw the boy leaving the park without the skateboard.
What happened to his skateboard?” asked Midge.
I don't know,” said Jake. “Maybe someone else came to the ramp and he gave it to that person.”
Come on,” said Midge. “Lets go see.”
They turned around and went back to the ramp where they found the skateboard on top of the ramp near the stairs.
I wonder why he left it here?” asked Booker-T.
I don't know,” said Jake.
I want to try it,” said Midge.
No no,” said Jake. “You could get hurt. You don't know how to ride that thing.”
It looked easy when we watched him.”
I don't think you should,” said Booker-T.
Midge smiled and started for the stairs. She climbed to the top and stared at the skateboard. She stepped on top and placed her foot on the board behind her and gave herself a shove. Down the ramp she went. “Look guys, I'm riding it,” said Midge.
The skateboard went down the ramp and started up the other side, but before it went too far, Midge started to fall backwards and the skateboard was rolling backwards toward the bottom. Midge rolled over onto her back and Jake and Booker-T ran to where she lay.
Are you okay?” asked Jake staring at her laying on the ground.
I think so,” said Midge.
Get up if you can,” said Booker-T. “Lets go home where it is safer.”
Midge scrambled to her feet and stood a moment. “I think I'm okay. Lets go.”
the three slowly walked away from the skateboard ramp leaving the skateboard at the bottom of the ramp where it came to rest after her fall.
