Trip to The Petting Zoo

"Good morning, Snappy," said Midge as she hurried through the living room and into the kitchen. She hurried up and ate her breakfast and started to crawl through the doggie door, but when she hit the door with her head to push it open, it didn't move.

"Ouch," said Midge.

"Is that you Midge?" asked Booker-T from the other side of the door.

"Hi Booker-T," greeted Midge as she poked her head out the door. "I think you were trying to come in same time I was trying to go out."

"Yes," laughed Booker-T as he stepped back away from the doggie door. "Come on out."

"Hi Booker-T," said Midge again once she was outside. "What are you doing?"

"I came to get you so we can go to Jake's house," said Booker-T. "Are we going to go to the petting zoo today?"

"I think so," said Midge. "I wonder if our friend Pinky the pig is still at the petting zoo."

"Do they have to leave the petting zoo when the baby animals grow up?" asked Booker-T.

"I think so," said Midge.

"Maybe Pinky isn't there anymore," said Booker-T.

"That would be sad," said Midge. "Come on lets go to Jake's house."

Booker-T and Midge strolled through the gate and started walking along the sidewalk to Jake's house. Gabby swooped down from the trees above and landed on the sidewalk in front of them.

"Where are you guys going?" asked Gabby.

"Hi Gabby," said Midge. "We are on the way to Jake's house so we can go to the petting zoo today."

"They have some new baby animals today," said Gabby.

"Is Pinky still there?" asked Booker-T.

"I don't think so," said Gabby. "I think they took Pinky to the farm."

"Which farm?" asked Midge.

"The big farm out there near the skateboard ramp," said Gabby. "He grew up so the owner of the petting zoo thought he was too big for the little humans."

"I thought the little pot-bellied pigs didn't grow up that big?" asked Midge.

"They don't," said Gabby. "But it turned out that Pinky was a regular pig."

"Oh," said Midge. "We will have to go see him at the farm," said Booker-T.

"We will do that that," said Midge. "And we can visit the horses and the cows when we go to the farm."

"Do you want to come with us, Gabby?" asked Booker-T,

"I'll come with you," said Gabby. "I want to see who is all at the petting zoo now."

"Lets go," said Midge as she started walking.

Gabby took off and flew above Midge and Booker-T as they walked along the sidewalk to Jake's house. They hurried through the gate into the front yard and found Jake sitting in the swing.

"Hi Jake," said Gabby as he swooped down and landed on the porch railing.

"Hi Gabby," said Jake. "Nice to see you with Midge and Booker-T."

"Midge said you were going to so see the petting zoo today," said Gabby. "I was telling them that Pinky wasn't there now."

"Where is Pinky?" asked Jake.

"Gabby said he is at the farm by the skateboard ramp," said Midge.

"Lets go see who is at the petting zoo," said Booker-T.

Jake, Booker-T and Midge walked through the gate on their way to the petting zoo and Gabby followed above. When they reached the big zoo transfer building, they hurried around the building where they petting zoo is set up. They stood staring into the empty area. They saw no petting zoo.

"What happened to the petting zoo?" asked Midge.

"I don't know," said Jake. "Maybe it is too cold for them to be here right now."

"Is there are sign somewhere?" asked Booker-T as he looked around the area for a sign.

"I don't see one," said Midge. "Maybe inside the building."

They ran around the building and went inside. On the wall near the back cages, was a bulletin board and Jake checked the board for a sign about the petting zoo.

"What does it say, Jake?" asked Midge.

"It says that next week, they are going to build a small building behind this big building so the petting zoo will be inside so they can have the animals here all year," said Jake.

"This is good," said Midge. "We can see the animals all year this way."

"I like that idea," smiled Booker-T.

"Me too," said Gabby. "The little humans miss the animals when they aren't here."

"But we can't see them today," sighed Midge. "Where are the animals now?"

"I don't know," said Jake. "We will have to wait to see them until they build the new place for them."

"How long will it be, Jake?" asked Booker-T.

"It says on the sign that the Petting Zoo will open in March," read Jake.

"What do you want to do today?" asked Midge.

"Why don't you go to the farm and visit Pinky," suggested Gabby. "He will be happy to see you."

"Do you want to go to the farm?" asked Midge.

"Why don't we visit these animals while we are here?" said Jake as he looked around the room.

"We can do that," said Midge. "Look at the pretty animal in that cage."

"Oh yes," said Jake. "That looks like a panda bear. He sure looks pretty."

"Lets go talk to him," said Booker-T as he started to walk to the cage.

Midge and Jake followed him. They stood at the cage staring at the beautiful little black and white bear.

"I never seen a Panda bear before," said Midge.

"You never seen any bear," laughed Jake.

"Hello," said the Panda bear. "Are you watching me? I have never seen you before."

"Hi," smiled Midge. "I am Midge. I've never seen a bear before and you are really beautiful."

"I'm Ching," said the Panda bear. "Can I come out there and play with you? I don't like it in this cage."

"We don't have a key to the cage," said Midge. "The humans take care of the cages here. We come to visit the animals who are here."

"That is nice," said Ching. "I like to talk to others."

"We do too," said Midge. "These are my friends, Booker-T and Jake and sitting on top of your cage is Gabby."

"Hi everyone," smiled Ching.

They all talked and laughed and Midge told Ching about living with humans in a house.

"It's time for us to go now," said Jake. "I'm hungry."

"I think it is time to go home now," said Midge. "it was nice to meet you Ching. Take care in your new home. Bye."

"Bye guys," smiled Ching.
