Lucy Goes to the Park

After taking Lucy to Jake's house and then to Midge and Booker-T's house, the three took Lucy to the park where they liked to play in the pond on warmer days. They told her about the little train that runs around the park.

“Come on Lucy,” said Midge. “Lets go ride the train around the park and you can see everything.”

“Will the humans let us ride the train?” asked Lucy.

“We ride it all the time,” said Jake. “They have never kicked us off. We ride in the last car.”

“We get kicked out of some things,” said Booker-T. “But we can ride this train.”

They hopped onto the train when it stopped at the station and started to ride it around the park.

“Hey!” shouted Lucy. “Look over there! I want to slide on the slides. Can we go over there?”

“You like to slide down the slides?” asked Jake. "The little humans like the slides."

“Yes, I like them too. They are fun.” smiled Lucy. “Come on lets go!”

Before they could say anything, Lucy jumped off the train and ran to the slides and swings. Jake, Midge and Booker-T jumped off the train and ran after Lucy. When they caught up to her, she was climbing the steps to the top of the large slide. At the top, she laid down with her front legs out in front of herself and her hind legs out behind her and down the slide she went sailing. At the bottom, she slid off the slide and landed on her belly in the sand.

“Come on guys,” said Lucy. “This is fun!”

One by one Jake, Midge, Lucy and Booker-T climbed to the top of the big slide and went sliding to the bottom. As Midge landed in the sand, Lucy was standing there waiting on her turn to come down.

“Isn't it fun?” asked Lucy. “Lets do it again.”

Several times, they each slid down the slide and ran around to go back up and do it again. Lucy was excited.

“Do you want to sneak into the water park near Midge's house?” asked Jake. “They have a really gig slide there,”

“That is fun,” said Midge. “But if we get caught, they will kick us out of the park. We can run faster than the security guard.”

“We sneaked in early in the morning before they opened in summer,” said Booker-T. “As Jake came down the slide, the guard saw us and chased us out.”

“The park is closed right now until May when they open for the warm weather,” said Midge. "In summer time, all the little humans and some big humans are there playing in the water and on the water slide.”

“Lets go sneak in,” said Lucy. “I want to see the water park.”

The four ran across the park and along the sidewalk to Midge's house.

“Is that the water park?” asked Lucy. “I see that big slide. Wow it's big.”

“Yes,” said Midge.

They started to walk around the large fencing to the park. In the back, they found three cars parked near the back gate.

“Somebody is here,” said Booker-T.

“I think they are workers getting the park ready to open,” said Midge. “Hey look here. This gate is opened.”

“Lets go in,” said Lucy.

“Do you see anyone?' asked Jake.

“No,” said Midge looking around the park. “Lets go inside.”

One by one, they sneaked inside through the opened gate and looked around. On the back side of the park, they could see the workers painting a wall and the frame of the smaller slide.

“There is the big slide, Lucy,” whispered Midge. “And the pond has water in it. Let's go!”

One by one they climbed to the top of the huge water slide. The slide was wide enough so two could slide down together. Booker-T and Jake stood at the top and were first to go down and splashed into the water at the bottom. As Lucy and Midge laid down to slide down, someone from below started screaming at them.

“Hey!” called out the guard as he waved his arms at them. “Get out of here!”

Midge and Lucy slid into the water and swam to the edge to climb out. Two other humans were waving their hands at them and screaming. The four ran to the back gate with the two shouting, “Get out! Get out!”

As the last one went out the gate, the human slammed the gate shut and hooked the latch.

“That was fun,” laughed Lucy. “Sliding into the water was fun. Now I am a little cold.”

“They have a small slide down into the pond in the park we can play on too,” said Jake. “And no one there will chase us away.”

“Getting chase is exciting” said Lucy. “That was fun.”

“But we don' want them to catch us,” said Midge. :Our owners would be upset with us.”

“We have to be careful,” said Jake.

“ We have fun,” said Midge. “But we do try to be careful all the time because of our owners. Lets go in the house and warm up. You can meet our other little friend, Snappy.”

They all went inside and Midge introduced Lucy to Snappy.
