The Car Show

Midge walked next door to Booker-T's house.  At the front door she called out to him.

“Hey, Booker-T!” called Midge.  “Where are you!”

In a few minutes, Booker-T ran around the house to the front where Midge was waiting.

“Hi Midge,” said Booker-T.  “Are we going to Jake's house now?”

“Yes,” said Midge. “Do you know what we are going to do today?”

“No,” said Booker-T.  “Do you have any ideas what we can show Lucy?”

“I know what you can do, Midge,” said Gabby as he flew down from the trees and landed in the yard.

“Hi Gabby,” said Midge.  “Do you have an idea?”

“Near the school, “ said Gabby.  “They are setting up a display of old cars.  You guys can go look at the old cars.”

“Humans like cars, don't they,” said Booker-T.  “You always want to do what the humans do so you can go look at old cars like they do.”

“Why do they like to look at old cars?” asked Midge.

“I think they call these old cars, classics,” said Gabby.  “Some are worth a lot of money now.”

“Do you think we can ride in one of them?” asked Booker-T.  "I like to go for a ride in the car."

“I don't think so,” said Gabby.  “I don't think they will allow dogs and cats into their cars.”

“But they are old cars,” said Midge. “Why do they care?”

“These are fancy old cars,” said Gabby.

“We will ask Jake and Lucy,” said Midge.  “Maybe we can go look and then go do something different.”

“Okay,” agreed Booker-T.   “Maybe this is a human thing that you won't want to do.  Doesn't sound fun looking at old cars.”

    “Maybe,” smiled Midge.

Booker-T and Midge walked along the sidewalk as Gabby flew above on the way to Jake's house.  As they turned the corner, they saw Lucy going through the gate into Jake's yard.  They hurried to the gate and went into the yard behind her.

  “Hi Lucy,” greeted Midge.

   “Hi Midge, Booker-T,” smiled Lucy.

“Hi Lucy,” said Gabby as he flew down and landed on the porch railing.

“Hi Gabby,” smiled Lucy.  “I didn't know you were coming with Midge and Booker-T.  Are you going to go have fun with us today?”

   “Maybe,” smiled Gabby.

  “Where is Jake?” asked Booker-T.

“I'm here,” said Jake as he walked around the corner of the house.  “I was in the house.”

“What are you doing?” asked Midge.

    “Nothing,” said Jake.

“Yes you were,”  laughed Booker-T.  “You were taking a nap, weren't you?”

  “Maybe,” smiled Jake.

“Gabby was telling Booker-T and I about an old car show near the school,” said Midge.  “Do you want to take Lucy to see the old cars?”

“She likes to do human things,” said Booker-T.  “Humans like to look at cars.”

“Why do we want to look at old cars?” asked Jake. “Do you want to look at them, Midge?”

“It might be fun,” said Midge.  “Gabby said they aren't just old cars.  He said some are called Classics and are worth a lot of money.”

“What is a classic?” asked Lucy.

“Something fancy humans call old,” laughed Gabby.

“Okay,” said Jake.  “Lets go check them out.  Can we sit in them and go for a ride?  I like riding in cars.”

“I don't think we can sit in them,” said Midge.  "Gabby said the humans won't let us in the cars."

They walked along the sidewalk on their way to the school.  When they were close to the school, they saw a lot of cars lined up in the parking lot with signs in front of each one.

“Look at this old car,” said Jake.  “It says it is from 1904.  Wow I think that is really old.  But it says it is a pie wagon. It's not a car.”

“What is a pie wagon?” asked Lucy.

“I don't know,” said Jake.  “Maybe they used it to deliver pies someone made.”

“It's nice and shiny,” said Midge.  They must have washed it good for today.  I like that one over there. I like that red color.  Come on, lets go look at it.”

They walked to the red car.  “What does the little sign say?” asked Booker-T.

“It says that the car is from 1957 and it is a BMW sports car,” read Jake.

“What is a sports car?” asked Booker-T.

“I don't know,” said Jake.  "Maybe they use it to play sports. Maybe a race car.”

Midge looked around and started to jump into the car.

“Midge!” screamed Jake. “What are you doing!  They will not be happy if they see you.”

“I don't see anyone,” said Midge as she sat up in the driver seat and looked around.  “This is nice Jake.  Come on in.”

As Jake got ready to jump into the car, a young human came running across the parking lot waving his arms and screaming, “Get out!  Get out!”

“Jump Midge!” screamed Jake. “Lets go!  Run fast!”

They all ran from the car before the angry human reached the car.

“That was close,” said Lucy.   “I don't think they want us in their cars.”

“Lets go find something else to do,”  suggested Jake.
