What's Up Doc?

Midge was sitting on the front porch when Booker-T came through the gate.

What's up Doc?” smiled Midge.

Doc?” said Booker-T. “I'm not a doc, Midge. I'm just a little cat.”

I know,” said Midge. “How about a carrot, Doc?”

Hello Midge,” said Booker-T. “Are you in there?”

I'm really good, doc,” said Midge.

Why are you calling me doc?” asked Booker-T. “And I don't eat carrots. Yucky. Do you eat carrots?”

We sure need to hide from Elmer,” said Midge.

Who is Elmer?” asked Booker-T. “Have you been watching TV again?”

Cartoons are fun,” said Midge.

Was your owner's niece at the house last night?” asked Booker-T.

Yes,” smiled Midge. “She just loves cartoons and Bugs Bunny is funny. He is always hiding from Elmer.”

You were watching a bunny on TV?” asked Booker-T.

Yes,” said Midge.

The bunny has bugs?” asked Booker-T.

No,” laughed Midge. “The bunny's name is Bugs.”

That is a funny name for a bunny,” said Booker-T.

It's just a cartoon bunny,” said Midge.

Who is Elmer?” asked Booker-T.

He is a little human that is trying to hunt Bugs,” said Midge. “He is always chasing Bugs.”

Hi guys,” greeted Jake and Lucy as they entered to the gate and strolled to the porch where Midge and Booker-T were talking. “What are you guys doing?”

Midge is pretending to be Bugs?” said Booker-T.

What kind of bugs?” asked Lucy.

She is playing cartoons,” said Booker-T. “Bugs is a bunny.”

How do you play Cartoons?” asked Jake. “Must be a human thing.”

They are little human's TV shows,” said Midge. “Your owner's nephew watches them too, don't he?”

Yes,” said Jake. “His favorite cartoon is Tom and Jerry.”

I haven't seen that one,” said Midge. “Who are Tom and Jerry?”

There is a mouse named Jerry,” said Jake. “And the cat is named Tom and he is always chasing the mouse.”

Does he catch him?” asked Booker-T. “Does Tom want to be friends with Jerry?”

No,” said Jake. “I think Tom wants to eat the mouse.”

Oh no,” said Midge. “That is a sad cartoon. They should be friends.”

I think so too,” said Booker-T.

But cartoons aren't real life, Midge,” said Jake. “They aren't like we are.”

But the animals in the cartoons talk like we do,” said Midge.

Ha ha,” said Lucy. “Does that mean we are cartoons?”

I'm glad we are friends,” said Booker-T.

It would be cool to be a cartoon,” laughed Midge.

Maybe,” agreed Lucy.

Do we know any mouses?” asked Booker-T.

I don't think so,” said Midge. “Maybe some day we will meet a mouse and be friends with it.”

My owner don't like it when a mouse gets in the house,” said Lucy. “She always screams when she sees one.”

I like the superman cartoons,” said Jake. “Do you watch TV with your owner, Lucy?”

Yes,” said Lucy. “She likes horse movies like Fury.”

What is Fury?” asked Booker-T.

Fury is a pretty black horse,” said Lucy. “He is a really smart horse too.”

Does he talk?” asked Midge.

No,” said Lucy.

I like horses too,” said Midge. “That was so much fun riding the horses the other day.”

It sure is a long way to the ground when you fall off,” said Booker-T.

Yes it is,” agreed Lucy. “We can try again.”

Maybe later,” said Jake.

Okay,” said Lucy.
