The New Addition at Jake's

“Hi Jake!” called Midge as she walked to the porch where Jake was sitting. “What are you doing?”
“Hmm,” said Jake. “I'm picking cotton.”
“What?” asked Midge looking at Jake with a puzzled look. “You look like you are just sitting there doing nothing.”
“Yes,” said Jake. “That's what I am doing. Nothing.”
“Oh,” laughed Midge. “You are being funny.”
“Where's Booker-T?” asked Jake. “I thought he was coming with you.”
“He had to go to the vet's this morning so we are supposed to go get him before we go to the park,” said Midge.

Midge Tries Something New

“Hey Midge!” called Jake as he strolled through the gate. “What are you doing?”
He walked to the porch where Midge was sitting . “Hey,” said Jake. “Didn't you hear me calling you?”
“Oh, Hi Jake,” smiled Midge. “I didn't hear you.”
“Where is your brain at this morning?” asked Jake. “You were off in another world maybe.”
“Ha ha,” laughed Midge. “I guess maybe I was.”
“What were you thinking about?” asked Jake.
“I was thinking about an adventure,” said Midge.
“What kind of adventure?” asked Jake.
“I don't know yet.. I was just thinking,” said Midge. “I'm sure there is something I can do.”
“We are limited you know,” said Jake.

Midge Takes A Ride

“Hey Midge!” called Jake as he ran into the front yard. “Where are you?”
He waited a few minutes and didn't see or hear Midge, so he hurried into the back yard and squeezed into the house through her little doggie door. He crossed the kitchen and found Midge in the living room talking to Snappy.
“Hi Midge,” greeted Jake. “Hi Snappy.”
“Hi Jake,” said Midge.
“Hi Jake,” said Snappy. “I'm glad you come to see me.”
“How are you doing?” asked Jake. “ Do you miss your pond at the park?”

The Old Cars

Midge and Booker-T hurried along the sidewalk on their way to Jake's place with Smokey running behind to keep up.
“Come on Smokey,” said Midge.
“I'm hurrying,” said Smokey. “You walk so fast you know.”
“Oh,” said Midge stopping to let Smokey catch up with them. “I didn't think about it.”
“I guess we are used to all of us walking fast,” said Booker-T. “We will slow down.”
The three strolled along at a slower pace, continuing on their way to Jake's. They rounded the corner and entered the gate at Jake's place.
“Hey Jake!” called Midge as they entered the yard. “Where are you?”
“Hi Midge,” said Jake as he came from the back yard. “Well, who have you got with you?”

The New Friend

“Do da do da,” sang Midge as she entered the living room.
“Hi Midge,” called Snappy looking out the tank window. “You are singing this morning.”
“Oh yes,” said Midge. “I guess I am.”
“What are you happy about today?” asked Snappy.
“We went to see the dinosaur statues yesterday and after we saw them, we went to the zoo,” said Midge.
“Was it fun?” asked Snappy.
“It was really good,” replied Midge. “Those dinosaurs are really big animal monsters. I'm happy they don't live in our city.”
“Are they really big?” asked Snappy.

Meeting the New Zoo Animals

“Hey Jake,” said Midge. “Is that a lion over there?”
Jake looked in the direction that Midge was pointing to. “ Yes,” replied Jake. “He's bigger than I thought. I never saw one up close. Lets go see him.”
“How do you know that it is a he?” asked Midge.
“See the big mane around the neck?” asked Jake. “The boy lions have that mane. The girl lions don't.”
“How do you know that?” asked Booker-T. “I didn't know that.”
“I saw it on the TV one night when my owner was watching a show about Africa,” answered Jake.

New Zoo Animals

“Those were really big monster animals,” said Midge as the three walked along the sidewalk on their way to the zoo holding building.
“I know it,” said Booker-T. “I hope they never come here to our city. They are so big that they could step on our houses and crush them.”
“Do you think they will ever come here?” asked Midge.
“I don't know,” said Jake shaking his head. “I hope not. Maybe Gabby knows. He knows everything.”
“Do you think he knows where these big monster animals live?” asked Booker-T.
