Midge pulled a
large sheet across the floor into the living room after her owner
left for work. She dropped the sheet on the floor and leaped into
the chair near Snappy's tank.
"Good
morning Snappy," smiled Midge.
"Hi
Midge," replied Snappy. "What are you doing with that?"
"I'm
going to play with it," said Midge.
"What is
it?" asked Snappy.
"It is a
sheet," said Midge.
"What is a sheet?" asked Snappy.
"It goes
on a bed," said Midge. "Our owner uses one on her bed."
"Did you
take it off her bed?" asked Snappy.
"No no,"
said Midge. "I got it out of the closet. She had it in the
basket."
"What are
you going to do with it?" asked Snappy. "Won't she get
upset with you if you
are playing with
it?"
"I will
put it back before she comes home," said Midge. "I won't
hurt it."
"What
are you going to do with it," asked Snappy again."
"I'm
going to have some fun," said Midge. "Watch for Booker-T
to come and don't tell him
where I am when he
comes in."
"Okay,"
said Snappy.
Midge jumped
down from the chair and dragged the sheet across the room to the end
of the sofa. She sat on the sheet. "Let me know when you see
Booker-T coming," said Midge.
"Okay,"
said Snappy.
In a few
minutes, she asked Snappy if they saw him coming. "Do you see
Booker-T?" asked
Midge.
Snappy crawled
up the log in his tank where he could see out the window... "Here
comes Booker-T and Jake," said Snappy.
"Okay,"
smiled Midge. "Don't say anything?"
"Okay,
Midge," agreed Snappy.
Midge crawled
under the sheet and laid down. Booker-T and Jake stepped onto the
porch and called out to Midge. "Midge!" called Jake.
"Where are you?"
"Hey
Midge!" said Booker-T. "We are going to the park. Where
are you?"
"Lets go
around to the back," said Jake as he started to walk around the
house with Booker-T following behind.
Jake poked
his head into the house through the doggie door. "Midge!"
called Jake. "Are you in here? Booker-T and I are coming in."
Jake crawled
through the doggie door and Booker-T followed him into the kitchen.
"Maybe
she went to the vet this morning," suggested Booker-T.
"Maybe,"
said Jake. "I don't know when she goes for her shots again.
Come on, lets go see
Snappy while we
are here."
They entered
the living room and crossed the room. Booker-T leaped into the chair
while Jake stood on the floor and poked his nose against the glass..
"Hi,
Snappy," said Jake. "What are you doing?"
"Nothing,"
said Snappy. "I was looking out the window at the nice sun."
"Do you
know where Midge is?" asked Booker-T.
"I don't
think she is here," said Snappy.
"Did she
go to the vet today?" asked Jake.
"I don't
think so," said Snappy. "She didn't tell me where she was
going. I think she said she was going to go to the park with you and
Booker-T."
"Maybe
she is on her way to your house Jake," suggested Booker-T.
"We
didn't pass her on the street," said Jake with a puzzled look.
"Maybe
she went a different way,' said Booker-T.
"I don't
think so, "said Jake. "She always goes the same way ."
"Midge
is sneaky," laughed Snappy.
"She
likes to tease us," said Booker-T.
"Yes,"
said Jake. "She does get sneaky sometimes and you know,
Halloween is coming
soon now and she
likes to scare everyone."
"Do you
think she is teasing you today?" asked Snappy.
"I don't
know," said Jake looking out the window. Is she hiding from
us?"
"I don't
think so," said Snappy.
"Maybe
she went to the vet," suggested Booker-T. "Maybe Snappy
was sleeping."
"That's
it," said Snappy. "I was sleeping and didn't see Midge
leave."
Midge was
under the sheet across the room listening to them and trying to keep
from
laughing out loud.
When they were not looking she slowly and in a whisper, tried to
sound
like the whistling
wind. "oooooh," whispered Midge.
"What's
that?" asked Booker-T looking around the room.
"Go look
in the bedroom," said Jake.
"I will
if you go with me," said Booker-T.
"Okay,"
said Jake. "Come on lets go."
They walked
into the bedroom and stood there looking around. Midge quietly
crawled across the room under the sheet and stood near the door. In
a few minutes Jake and Booker-T came walking out of the room. Midge
leaped up with the sheet still over her and shouted, "Boo!"
Booker-T
jumped so high that he landed on Jake's back and slide down his tail.
He got up and stood behind Jake peaking around him.
"A ghost!"
called Booker-T.
Jake grabbed the
sheet and pulled. "Midge!" said Jake. "What are you
doing?"
"Were you
scared?" laughed Midge.
"You
scared me," said Booker-T.
"Halloween
is coming soon," said Midge. "I like Halloween."
"I know,"
laughed Booker-T.
"Is your
owner going to have a party again this year?" asked Jake.
"I think
she is going to have a party next week on Friday," said Midge.
"She is going to another
party on Saturday
night at her brother's house."
"I want
to come to the party," said Booker-T.
"You can
come," said Midge. "I don't think she will notice us when
her friends are here to have fun."
"Okay,"
said Jake. "We will come and have fun too."
